EDIT: Re-read no.1 done
That was a difficult read with all my migraines but quite enjoyable. I would have to give it 3.5 stars or 4, not quite sure yet.
Update: I have confirmed that it is, in fact, 4 stars.
It had adventure, albeit in a castle, but I was all here for it. The pace was pretty normal which can be a bit painful, since it's over roughly 4 months I would say it drags a bit more than one would want.
Celaena Sardothien, is there anything better than her (fake) name, well.... there is and he comes with the name Dorian Havilliard.
Now, this is an unpopular opinion but I quite like Dorian. Other people may be thinking that Chaol is everything amazing but he was genuinely anything but a love interest in this book even though Maas hints heavily to their romance.
—”Celaena remained watching the door, even after Chaol had shut it behind him.”—
Even with Dorian right there, she continues looking to where Chaol left. It was blatantly obvious from then on. Other hints had been when Chaol gave her the ring after chucking Dorian out of the room, as well as often getting jealous of Dorian and Celaena spending time with each other.
One can only imagine how the next book goes.
Now, the element of mystery kept things interesting. I always knew Nehemia was good, but I always had my bets on Duke Perrington being the one summoning these monstrous demon-like spawn. Most of it was down to how he was described, his eyes shifting between light and dark, good and evil. Other parts of it involved knowing that Cain's size increased almost day by day. He seemed the most suspicious and the one with the most to lose.
However, now that I know it was Cain who used magic and wyrdmarks for evil, I can still understand and yet still come to the same conclusion. Duke Perrington is evil, I call it even now.
—”“Your manipulation of Kaltain was interesting,” said the king at last. Perrington remained kneeling. “Were you using the power on her?”
“No; I've relaxed it recently, as you suggested,” the duke replied, rotating the obsidian ring around his thick finger.”—
Now, onto the next book... Hopefully
4.5 stars.
I hate how this book brought me to tears with no real cause other than the fact that I knew Kate would die and I desperately needed every August and Kate moment possible.
I think a part of me severely wanted them together while another part was warring and wanted them to just have a connection without romance. With that, once Kate died at the end, I held onto hope she'd be back as a Sunai. Too bad August just has her as a memory, it's for sure enough to bring me to tears all over again.
I still can't believe I cried when they kissed though.
Finished! 3.5 stars, not quite more since it was dragging at the start.
Hell, that ending saddened me after finding out so much about Nora. Where her final life was too perfect, before she went back to the Midnight Library, I was hoping she would have some semblance of it by the time she was conscious. When she did have that, through her brother, I wished it was shown more through her relationship. It just wasn't enough to see her and Joe back to good relations. I must admit though, it was very nice to see Nora back on her feet and enjoying her life in a way she never did. And the wholesome Mrs Elm catch-up got me, almost.
This book... I did not expect to read 98% of it today and, now that I have, I understand how and why it happened.
This was such a fun and interesting journey, where Curse of the Wolf King had me in tears this one felt more lighthearted to me. (I assure you that it is not at all, I'm just weird)
I knew I liked Ember in the 1st book and it was a given for me to like Franco, even with his name.
Definitely a 4.5 star read for me.
How has this book got a 3.87 star rating???
This book is everything. It has made me cry on two occasions and the banter between Gemma and Elliot is everything. All of this was worth it and the happy ending...
Come on, this book has pretty much ruined all of my senses.
Re-read 1:
The rating has gone further down, what is going on?
This book seems even better than before, I can learn to appreciate it more knowing more about the other characters like Foxglove, Amelie and Nyxia. I'm shocked I didn't remember Nyxia at all, especially with her being a part of Ember's story. I genuinely feel so bad but I appreciate the book more in turn.
Rating has gone from 4 stars to 4.5!
My first book of July.
This book has me in a slight jumble, it took so long to begin reading it that I decided to take a break and come back to it.
Yesterday, I started reading it again. The first 200 or so pages were a bore for me but as I got to the 2nd half, it instantly became a whole lot more enjoyable.
Now, that I've read to the end, I can safely say that I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. I seriously cannot wait for the next book and I'm seriously hoping that I have some Laura content.
This book has been like a rollercoaster ride. I don't quite understand the hatred towards Nesta, maybe it's the fact that she never felt the need to protect Feyre or something else. She's genuinely a character though and it's amazing to see.
Rhysand is as lovely and amazing as always. You can tell he's the epitome of a man written by a woman.
Feyre has always been a strong individual and is, no doubt, a very good and not so annoying character unlike many fmc's.
Cassian is amazing but I think I like Azriel's fire better. Both are overly protective and the Illyrian wings, come on.
Mor is just something, I don't know how to describe her but she's better than everyone else by a lot. I wish that she got her happiness with Az but that may not happen.
Edit: Thank you SJM, for creating the final 100 pages, I mean. I loved having a look at the Hybern situation again, learning more about both Lucien's and Cassians actions towards Elain and Nesta. And all around knowing that Lucien doesn't buy into Feyre's words at the end, it all speaks volumes.
Also with Mor and Az, I'm glad nothing happens between them. And I don't like her near as much as I did before, the best thing she ever did was disappear for most of SF
Edit #2: Ever since my first read through of the books, I've realised how much I hate Rhys and leads to my impartiality towards this book.
It's a 3.5 star read for me, and I've been wanting to change the rating for ages
2nd read: I can always count on acotar for delivering new information from my eyes to my brain. There were so many nuances that I hadn't realised before now, so many parts that I hadn't seen the first time I read the full book.
1st read: 3rd time was certainly lucky, I never thought I'd say this but I somewhat liked a book that I shunned for so long.
Here's to say that Rhysand brought this book up to 4 stars. Tamlin was my least favourite character and Feyre was on the lower side of the annoying fmc scale. The first half of the book was a little on the painful side but, all in all, I enjoyed it.
Re-read 1: I think I didn't give this book the credit it deserved. I think I was wrong to dislike it as much as I did and for that I want to change the rating from 2 to 3 stars.
I still wasn't over the moon with Signa or Death but I did appreciate Signa's dedication to her new family.
_________________
This book was largely not what I would have wanted nor expected. I did not like Signa at all and Death was not exactly appropriate wanting her since she was a child. I was the least fond of that I must say.
I quite liked Percy which made it easy for me to assume he was the murderer, I have a thing for preferring the more villainous characters over the more normal ones.
It's too bad that Sylas was just death, I was hoping there'd be something more for Death to fight for if he truly wanted Signa.
Ah, this book, it warmed my stone heart I think. My way of rating is far too harsh so I can give it no more than a 4, maybe a 4.5. Reading this book hasn't been fantastical in any way and I appreciate that because after The Night Circus I kind of lost hope in other books.
No offense to Scarlett but she was a bit too uptight, I wish there were other words to give her other than that. Her redeeming quality was most definitely her love for her sister, she loves her so much it brings her back to life. Her own sort of magic.
Julian stole the show, I knew there was something off about him and instantly guessed he was a performer in caraval. He seemed to have been a better mc than Scarlett.
Donatella, she was the mastermind behind the scenes. It's crazy to think she did all of this just to escape her father. I genuinely love her character for it. My only thing is that I worry for what she has to do in return. I don't want to think about what Legend will make her do.
To the next book!
