Even with the mystery element this adventure detective thing isn't for me

View

DNF at page 100 bc I am a hater apparently. Sentences were choppy, no punctuation, and I am not super into adventure stories.

Not finishing this either. DNF at 30%.

DNF at 22%. I'm so sorry. It's not the book or the writing it's me. I can't connect to the characters and I'm just so bored. I shouldn't be but I am.

5 star rating remains after the second read through. This got dark really quickly, and my memories said it got darker later. I was wrong.

This is so hard to read, worse knowing what happens, but it is such a good series.

Loved the first book so much but was so bored with this one. Will try another by this author but done with this series.

Not rating it. It's more of a self-help than a memoir on the show and its history. My fault for not looking into it more. This shelf is really going to expose how many books I pick up and put down.

I've read a few of the amazon collections and I think this specific topic is just hard to fit in such short short stories.

I'm going to DNF this and not count it toward my book count. I love this author but these characters are just not working for me. I think too much is thrown into this book and it's just not for me

I am having issues. DNF at 284 pages.

I am so bored and the writing is just not for me. I tried to push through I really did!! I think I may succumb to where my heads at and just read romance and short serious books

DNF at 30% because I continue to be a hater.

There is a lot about the characters and writing that turned me off and it only got worse. I don't read adult romantic suspense for a POV of an annoying teenager. PLZ do not do this to me unless you have forced me to care about the kid for three books and trick me into tolerating it like Rachel Caine did.

This is available on Audible Plus though if you want to give it a chance! I'm not counting this as a book read this year though.

Moving on...

Too angsty, too “true love so everyone I hurt it doesn't matter because I'm doing it for LOOOOVE.”

GO TO CHICAGO GIRL. STOP hanging out in Belgrave mooning over him and just leave. I cannot.

Devoured this. No self control. I have heard people say this one isn't memorable and there is little development but this is a SLOW BURN ROMANCE PEOPLE SLOW BURN.

And there was DEFINITE progress made with her family and friends so I don't see what the issue is. Loved it. Want more.

Update 2022: when I reread these 5 years ago the same thing happened. I devoured these and here I am again. This time on audio!! My first time listening to this series and let me just say this one made me so excited for Gina's accent coming up lol

I'm going to DNF. I am so sorry. The jumping around is too much. I can't focus and its just too long.

I can't. The Wright Brothers is just not for me but I'm going to continue to try reading Christina C Jones because I LOVED Equivalent Exchange!

2.5 stars rounded up because there was nothing necessarily BAD....it just wasn't for me.

This was a royal historical romance with a bit of mystery and political intrigue. I liked the addition of the newspaper snippets at the beginning of each chapter. Some of the characters (like Donovan) really shined through for me and I liked the bit of mystery involved in the book.

However, overall, I found it a bit...bland. I just wish there was more build up in many elements. The romance was a slow burn (and nothing really happened) but then it quickly ramped up at the last 20% and I didn't really buy it. I wasn't rooting for this couple and never really felt the connection. The countries were made-up countries so it wasn't a historical fiction based or inspired on real events. There wasn't much built up on either the romance or the political intrigue since so I wasn't really invested in the future of the countries or the romance.

Usually when a series has books that include different couples I figure they can be read as stand-alone but for this one I would recommend going in order if you decide to pick this book up.
