I found the writing to be very awkward (unintentionally) at times, especially when a character was describing a past event. It was told the way a book would describe it, not a person who is speaking, if that makes any sense. This is partly the reason I had a lot of trouble connecting with the characters. They didn't act like real people, and a lot about the way they lived their lives wasn't realistic at all.

Storyline didn't really hook me, and the MC, supposedly an experienced, well trained military dude who has survived plenty of monster attacks, apparently forgot everything he's learned about survival for the first half of the book. Still plan to read book 3 because most of my issue with this one was just not really connecting with the MC.

Most of this book was pretty good, but it all went downhill at around the 70% mark. It suddenly went from a nice slow burn where they had just become civil to each other to suddenly instalove territory. The mystery also had a pretty ridiculous conclusion. It all left me feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied.

I was hesitant to spend money on this one because it had so few reviews, and based on the covers of the author's other books, I was expecting it to be pretty shitty, but the blurb had me curious. It was actually well written, though not exactly what I expected it to be. I figured it'd end up on my mindfuckery shelf, but it doesn't quite fit. While you do spend most of the book in the dark with the MC as far as what all transpired before his accident, the revelations were not as world altering as I expected and hoped they'd be. I also found it difficult to relate to Cal, because he ultimately did not seem to be strongly affected by these revelations, like he was too emotionally detached, therefore I was as well. Overall, though, it was an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this one so much more than the first! I love damaged, flawed characters, and I was expecting something much darker, but it was actually so fucking heartwarming. I wasn't sure how I'd be won over by Devon, who was not shown in the best light in book 1, but I now feel so protective of him! I could tell he was battling some serious inner demons in the first book, and it took Sebastien and his actual demon to help him defeat them. I love that he's a submissive who thought he was dominant, I love his fiery spirit, and I adore how the three of them are together.
Good story, but Sabre was just waaaay too submissive and masochistic for my tastes. It made it impossible to really feel anything on his behalf since he got off on his own suffering so much. I liked Laurent though. The next book in the series sounds more up my alley (I do so love flawed, fucked up characters) so I'm excited to continue!

The overall story isn't bad, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. There's needless repetition of concepts, and it states the obvious entirely too often. The thing that bugged me the most, though, was the frequently shifting perspectives with no warning. It was so jarring to hop from the mind of one character to 2 or more others then back to the original in just a few pages. Apparently the next book has instalove, so I'm giving up on this series.
