Sorry–it was just a little too name-droppy, heavy on dish and light on substance or intrigue. 150 or so pages in, and I gave up. Not enough to keep my interest.

I couldn't bear it. Terrible as far as I got, three chapters in. See my full critique and struggle: http://www.examiner.com/x-4275-Secularism-Examiner~y2009m12d15-Impatience-with-Frank-Schaeffer-or-my-failure-to-review-a-book

Very entertaining, very clever, sometimes a wee bit too cute. If you're well versed in science, it should be some pleasant amusement. If you're not, it's a great primer. Lots of wordplay and gags, but on the whole a worthwhile overview of the sciences.

If nothing else, a really good primer on the modern history of political dealmaking, and a good diagnosis of what ails American politics today. His solutions in the last chapter are less than striking, fairly hedged and not as “bold” as he makes out, but on the whole, a worthwhile read.
