I guess I picked this book based on the author. After I started it, I honestly thought it was about a real group. I was surprised I didn't remember the group, because I was big into music around the time the band was active. I didn't find out until much later in the book that it was fictional. WOW! This author covered every detail. I just found out there was a tv series based on the book and will check it out. I love this author. I can't wait to read more by them.
This book was recommended based on other books I've read. I guess I didn't look close enough at the full description.
I thought it was going to be more about healing herbs and how the land can provide. What I didn't realize is that the author would be exploring her ancestry in Lebanon and more. Although she does use plants as food to try to tie it all together, it just wasn't enough for me.
Honestly, I rarely don't finish a book, but I quit this one about one-third of the way through. It just wasn't what I wanted. I hate to give it such a low score, but it just didn't capture me and I didn't want to give it any more time.
The author had some great information about many foods that we possibly should be including in our diets, as well as how some have become almost extinct. The book was mostly engaging, but I dropped one star because he just went a little too far on each topic. The book was too long. I did like how he engaged his family in the story and taste tests.
I was excited to read the next in the cerulean chronicles series. I deducted one star, because I kinda forgot who Arthur Parnassus was, but a little into the story, I was reminded about who is was and what he had to endure when he previously lived on the island with magical children. I wish a little more detail was given to his partner. But it was still a good story.
As much as I like this author, I felt the beginning of the story to be very slow.
But as with most of his other books, it is an interesting story.
As I got to know her more, I fell in love with the main character, Grace. I think her older age made me relate to her more.
I would definitely recommend this book at anyone who loves stories about magic.
I knew of the story of the Little Rock Nine, but not the whole story. And who better to tell that story than one of the actual Little Rock Nine? Carlotta takes us back to a period before integration. She is a highly intelligent student and wishes to make her life so much better. So when a chance comes for her to attend a school where she may enhance her education, she signs on the dotted line.
But what comes after that is many years of pain and hardship. Yet Carlotta never gave up.
I cried and was hopeful as she told the journey she took while also being in the public eye. I give her a lot of credit and so glad she was able to make such a great life for herself.
I just wish that it never had to be so hard. Even today, many children of color in predominantly white schools don't have it easy. I wish everyone had to read this story and were able to get some compassion for all persons of color.
I just can't figure out how these authors can come up with the most bizarre situations in their stories. I absolutely loved this story. Every character is so detailed and the entire storyline has such detail, which makes it very engaging. I have several more to read before I reach the current volume of this series, but I hope it never ends.
I love Ruth Reichl. After reading her memoir, I decided I wanted to check out this fiction story she wrote. It's an interesting story and of course is focused on food. The story is the journey of a woman in Paris. I have to admit that parts of the story seem a little far-fetched, but overall, I liked it.
If you don't like Extra Terrestrial tales, read this anyway. Matt Haig has a way of engaging the reader. This was a fun and interesting story about an alien to arrives on earth and takes over the life of a human that, unfortunately, had to lose his life for the alien to arrive. But it's mostly a feel-good story. And the author will make you view everyday events a little differently. Just read it!
This was a good story. It was a very interesting to read about how things may have during the time the story took place. It was right after WWI and things were not very liberating for women.
But the women in this story are mostly courageous and have wonderful dreams for our future.
And although there are several tough things to read about, I would recommend this story to anyone who love a great tale about powerful women.
This was the 6th in this series and I have loved every one. These authors definitely have a way of coming up with some very unique storylines.
Although I love the quirky, Special Agent Pendergast, I very much dislike his brother Diogenese. In fact, I don't like that his name is in the parentheses after the title. Unfortunately, he is a main character in this story.
This was the 3rd and final story of The Endling. This was a great and engaging story. I listened with my grandson and we were both sad to know this was the last in this series.
The detail the author put into this story was touching and kept us engaged. I would recommend it for everyone. It could be a little too much for younger children, but it teaches some lessons about being a kind creature (human or other).
