I'll admit, I chose these books because the covers were gorgeous. I'll also admit I'm not typically a YA reader (and even when I am, it's a good mystery or realistic fiction) so why on earth I ever purchased this series from Audible... well, you got me. At any rate, I'm sure readers of this genre will love it, and I will give the author credit for creativity, she brings a lot of new things to the genre, but it just wasn't for me.
A great book featuring several paintings from Bob. I used to watch him often when I was young and it brought back so many memories! He was such a humble, encouraging man and this book reflects that so much. My favorite quote from the book, “Trees are like people. They have personalities - each one's different, each one's an individual. If your tree doesn't look just like mine, that means it's probably better.”
I really enjoyed this novel by Gudenkauf. A good mystery with several suspects. While I was pretty sure I knew who did it (and I was right for once!), the author provided just enough speculation about the other characters to leave me doubting. Quick paced, yet left you guessing until the very end. The author also slips back and forth between the present and the past, which I love. Overall, this novel had everything I look for in a good read!
I loved this novel! I've seen a lot of readers give it poor reviews because it seemed unbelievable. I feel like that's why they call it fiction? I can totally see a 40 something woman who never had the wedding of her dreams throwing herself a party twenty years later. Why not? It did drive me crazy that Adam kept coming up with excuse after excuse not to tell his wife. But then when he finally did confirm his worst fears, I'm not even gonna lie, I teared up. Then when he told his wife, I cried. Yes, some parts were like “you gotta be kidding me.” But it kept me reading and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Probably one of my favorite books this year. I fell in love with the characters (might have a huge crush on Augustus AKA Gus). He and January were the cutest couple! I loved their back story and how the author brought them back together. A very well written romance that I would highly recommend especially as a beach read if you're lucky enough to be sitting in the sand this year ;)
Katherine Applegate writes very engaging children's stories. I absolutely adored The one and only Ivan and The one and only Bob did not disappoint either. Such a cute, exciting story for kids. I highly recommend for any struggling readers these stories, especially any animal lovers out there (including adults). Super cute.
Bea Schumacher is a plus size fashion blogger who put her love life on hold for her career. The love of her life and her best friend is engaged to another woman and Bea has spent most of her life pining over him. So when the option to star on a famous reality dating show lands in her lap, she jumps at the chance to find true love. As the shows first time plus sized contestant, Bea struggles with her own insecurities and has to learn to trust the men on the show to find “the one.” As a less than skinny person myself, I related to Bea so much and found myself reading on in anticipation to learn who she would end up with. A very endearing novel.
I almost didn't read Hilderbrand's newest title since I just finished Summer of ‘69 and found it to be just okay, but WOW! This novel was so unique and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. I love how the author did a recap of each year in the 28 summers of events that everyone was talking about then. I also loved the ending and cried for probably the last few summers of the novel. I did get really mad at Jake and Mallory more than once, but that's what makes a good book great, right? Well done Hilderbrand, well done.
Wow!!! A short but unforgettable book about the shootings at Kent State in 1970. After finishing the book, I found myself searching for articles and other info about this tragic event that happened 50 years ago. Very informative and imaginative story about the four students who lost their lives that day. I'm so glad to know their stories and pray that we never have another repeat of this day in our history.
This is probably one of the most heartbreaking books I've ever read. So incredibly tragic that it brought me to tears. It's also an important book that sheds light on the toll that mental and physical abuse can have on a family. I hope that teens in Ellie's shoes chose to fight. I wish so much that her story could have ended differently.
A cute, clean romance about two people thrown together in a small town. A soldier recovering from a war wound and a woman who owns her own business. Both are two stubborn to realize they are meant for each other. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series to find out what happens in the lives of Opal and Lincoln.
I found this book to have some very helpful information in it for raising teenagers. As a mother of a 14 year old, some of it scared the crap out of me but I'm glad I read it and I'm in the know about teens growing up in our world today. I was shocked at some of the statistics (some good, some bad). Some parts were redundant, but otherwise a good guide for parents of teens.
Wow! This book was not what I expected at all but still enjoyed it nonetheless. It is definitely NOT for the faint of heart. Lucky for me, I enjoy disturbing creepy books. There is a vampire, there is a book club of women who ban together to try to stop said vampire from wreaking havoc on their small town. I found it hilarious, sarcastic and a tad bit gross at times but still enjoyed it.
This book was so interesting I couldn't put it down. At first, I had little sympathy for Oona who gets to live her entire life out of order. First of all, she has a TON of money. I found myself wondering how someone could survive something like this without. But then things start to go wrong, people she loves are lost to her, and then there's the big secret close to the end of the book that I honestly did not see coming. Overall, I enjoyed this character's crazy, out of sync life and was rooting for her in the end to get everything she could ever want from said life!
