I really enjoyed this novel. Meeting these 5 siblings, all belonging to the same father, different moms (except 2). From their first meeting, to the accident that brings them together years later, and then the way they find a place for each other in their lives after all the dust settles. It was both tragic and moving at the same time. I fell for all of them and I'm glad I got to know them each just a little.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this fantastic audio! This story goes back and forth between the past where we eat Sara, a matchmaker and and the present with her granddaughter Abby. A delightful tale about love and soulmates, and the people who bring them together. I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet, endearing tale.
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of Run Time by Catherine Ryan Howard. This novel did keep me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the back and forth between the present plot and the movie plot. While I enjoyed this book, the lead character was a bit annoying and I didn't love the narration. Overall a good suspense novel I will recommend to patrons!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this audio book. Chris Johnson's new leadership title has lots of helpful information about what it takes to be a leader in today's world. He encourages you to get out of your comfort zone and try new techniques to make you a more effective leader. The chapter on multitasking was especially helpful to me as I try to multitask often and didn't realize the effects it has on my daily routine. Going forward I will try to focus on one task at a time to improve my overall performance and productivity.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. My second book by Ng and I think I'm just not a fan of her writing. While this book had some promise, I struggled throughout. I understand what the author was trying to achieve and while I agree with some of the topics covered, I also hate anything political. I also found the characters flat and unappealing. And... it's only a matter of time before this one lands in the banned books pile.
Thank you Netgalley for this phenomenal audio! I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I'm a Lauren Denton fan for life. Very well written. It's not often that an author writes characters you care for (at least in my experience) but I cared for these characters. A story about two sisters who survived a tragic event that shaped their lives and relationships in devastating ways. Yet their resilience and perseverance amazed me. They never gave up on themselves or each other. When the past comes back to haunt them, they have no choice but to face the truth head on. But you know what they say... the truth shall set you free. A wonderful book I will recommend to everyone who enjoys family sagas mixed with a good mystery.
I was impressed and enraged at the ending of this book. I'm left with so many unanswered questions, yet I'm impressed the author pulled this off. In real life, we don't always get a happy ending, we don't always learn the truth, we are left with unanswered questions. The killer doesn't always get caught, the victim doesn't always receive justice. And sometimes, the reader must draw their own conclusions about what happens next. I thought it was pretty great! If you liked The dry by Jane Harper, you'll like this one. Similar vibes.
Josh and Hazel!! ❤️❤️ Oh my goodness, I loved this one. Hazel is quirky and Josh is... well, Josh. Adorable, quiet, sweet. The two quickly become friends and start a hilarious, nonstop round of blind dates for each other, together. Each blind date gets wilder and leaves them feeling like they'll be alone forever. But then one drunken night, something happens that leave both of them wondering if the person they're meant to be with is actually... well, I guess you'll just have to read it. I laughed out loud more than once and I swooned over the relationship between these two. Sweet, sexy and funny. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A story about two people destined to be together even though fate and circumstances keep pulling them apart. A story about running from your past only to find it catches up with you eventually and that facing it is the only true way to move forward. This was a cute romantic comedy. Not the best I've read but worthy nonetheless. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! This is a fast paced story about a mom and daughter with powers. After Iris's friend's attempt to turn her boyfriend into a witch goes horribly wrong, Iris and her mother move away to a town where no one knows the truth about them, and Iris vows to never share that truth with anyone. But then Iris decides to curse someone and when it doesn't go as planned, the boy she's attempting to curse has to help her put a stop to it. Does the owl carrying the curse meant for Blake know what he's doing? It's he trying to protect him? Will they be able to save the owl from harm before the curse is exposed? A fantastic, magical read!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC audio! A story about a single mom who moves her kiddos to a new neighborhood in a new town for a fresh start after her husband leaves her for a Victoria's Secret employee (no joke). Things get sticky when she breaks the rules of the neighborhood by putting a gnome in her yard. She decides to boycott the rule and fight the homeowners association, ends up meeting the man in charge of the HMO, and of course, falls for him. It was very much a cozy mystery (without a murder), which is not my favorite genre, but as far as cozies go, this one was pretty good!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! This a great mystery. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoyed The Dry by Jane Harper. A missing girl in a small town has everyone pointing fingers. Most of the characters are lying about their alibis or stretching the truth about what they know which sends the lead detective on a wild chase to find the truth. I did struggle with all the characters, too many to keep track of for me, and I didn't really love any of them, but I did grow fond of Dirt town itself, as it reminded me, sadly, of my own small town.
This one had prospects for sure. I was interested in the plot from page one. A travel agent who's sort of psychic but not really. A police officer whose life is spared thanks to sort-of psychic travel agent. The two join forces to try to solve a crime. I enjoyed it well enough but think “cozy mystery with cuss words.” I might give book 2 a try but it needs some romance or action, otherwise take out the cussing and market your books as cozies because that's what this one felt like.
A novel about regrets, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, a senseless death. These are all themes in Lien's novel. Ky receives a phone call from her father, Denny, her brother, is dead. A dozen people were at Lucky 8 restaurant when Denny died, but none of them are talking, claiming to have seen nothing. Ky returns home determined to find answers, asking witnesses their account of the evening. Just when she's about to give up, she gets a lead and the truth will bring back old memories, and old friend and leave her just as lost.
While I enjoyed this novel and the alternating characters, I did struggle a bit with this one. I am glad I read it, thank you NetGalley for the ARC, But I found the narrator's voice a bit difficult to listen to. This author's debut novel will definitely be on my recommended reads list, especially for readers who enjoy Celeste Ng and other similar authors of family dramas.
