I'm a bit surprised at the low rating for this one and almost didn't read it as a result but I'm really glad I gave it a shot. A story about sisters grieving for their grandmother while also harboring secrets. A small southern town, a local sheriff who will stop at nothing to catch any of them in wrongdoing. A stolen baby. Stolen money. A dead body, an unsolved crime AND a missing person. I enjoyed every bit of this story and the multiple narratives made it even better! Also...that cover ❤️
I knew nothing going into this book other than I liked the cover. All I can say is wow. This one will stay with me for a long time (at least until 2024 when book 2 comes out). I absolutely loved this novel. I am not a fantasy reader at all but this one was just fantasy enough for me. A novel about two enemies who communicate through magic typewriters and quickly become friends and then more. The romance was sweet, the writing was phenomenal and the ending left me wanting so much more!
I'm so, so glad I didn't listen to all the negative reviews. Emily Henry has done it again! What did I love about this one? Everything! All of it! The love story, the friendships, in their “happy place” and no matter what life throws at them, they make their way back to each other. True friendship and true love ❤️
I somehow missed the memo that this book is geared towards women who have suffered from eating disorders. For that, I'd recommend. But for girls like me who have never even considered throwing up or starvation, I'm not sure this book is for us. My one takeaway from the book is that so much of our lives as women is dictated by the food we eat. It's constantly on our minds, we are hypersensitive to the fact that every single thing we eat can cause weight gain. It's depressing. Focusing more on being healthy, regardless of the scale should be more important than being “thin.”
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. I was fortunate to receive this one in audio and ebook so I listened in the car and read at night! The story starts out in a very unique way- a couple has purchased a home near a cliffs edge, a place where many people have given up on life and jumped from. But when Pippa and her husband move in, he is able to stop all the jumpers. Until he doesn't and Pippa thinks she sees her husband push the woman from the cliff. But she lies to the police and then things take a drastic turn, Pippa and her husband know the woman who jumped. Did he push her? If so, why? As Pippa uncovers the truth and more lies, she starts to question if her husband is a kind man after all...This story kept me intrigued until the very end. I've always been a Sally Hepworth fan and this one did not disappoint.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this audio. I enjoyed the narration very much and this author never disappoints. A group of kids, who bonded in the home they were sent to when they lost their parents, are brought together as adults for one purpose-find the person trying to kill them. After one of them is found dead, the other three must join forces and dredge up the past to find and stop the killer before it's too late. I found the story fast paced and intriguing.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC audio for this novel. This one had promise, a great suspenseful plot but ultimately fell flat for me. The main characters, Liz and Arlo, were quite annoying and I didn't connect with either of them. Liz was annoying and constantly second guessing everything. At one point I decided this woman was definitely mentally unstable and kept waiting for her to seek revenge on her husband. Well... that never happened. The ending was as flat as the rest of the book. Had the author chosen a big finale, this book would have redeemed itself but unfortunately that's not what happened here.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this historical novel set in Alaska. When Marie and Lawrence meet, they both want the same thing, to be married. But they want it for different reasons. Lawrence is ready to settle down, homestead and have babies. Marie just wants out of her boring life and fears that if she doesn't say yes to Lawrence, she'll never marry. Just days after meeting, they wed and so begins the story of their marriage and homesteading journey. As a couple they struggle to communicate their feelings with one another but as they go through one hardship after another together, they find a bond that brings them together. This was not a novel I would normally pursue but I'm glad I read it and enjoyed learning about the lives of these characters and found myself cheering them on over small victories. A relatable story for anyone who's been married.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! As a fan of Armstrong and the Rockton series, I was excited to see where this new book took Casey and Eric. While this felt like a Rockton novel under a new name, I did find the story and plot enjoyable, albeit familiar. Although t the two main characters find themselves in a new town ready to start over, their drama is very much the same (someone is murdered and they track the killer) Unfortunately, the plot is very similar to the other Rockton novels. Don't get me wrong, I loved the stories from Rockton, especially the first few, but I was hoping this new start for them would bring new stories.
I have so many mixed feelings right now. I've been reading this manga series for a few months now. It took a bit to get them all from my local library. Once I got to volume 8, I knew I had to read all of them fast. I didn't like where the story was headed. And now I'm finished and I feel as lost as Teacher. I loved the story of two lost souls finding each other and forming a bond. Teacher needed Shiva and Shiva needed Teacher. Such a sweet story. I loved it until I didn't
I have loved Jane Harper's Australia-based mysteries since reading The Dry. Aaron Falk is one my all time favorite characters and this time, his investigative skills did not disappoint this reader. He managed to solve two murder mysteries in one, find love and discover what really matters most in life. I enjoyed this one very much and can't wait to see what Falk does next!
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC! Finlay gets herself into all sorts of trouble in this one. Trying to find Easy Clean to get the mob boss off her back while also trying to keep the police off her tail, turns out to be quite the challenge. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites, as is Elle Cosimano. This one has it all: humor, mystery and romance. I highly recommend this series to everyone!
Five stars for Matthew Perry! Why? Because this was one of the few memoirs I've read (I mostly read fiction) that's kept my attention in its entirety. His story really makes you think about addiction as a disease, not a choice. The addiction gene as he calls it often, made me think long and hard about my own family members who are addicted. Perhaps it is all genetic. It's honestly the only thing that makes sense in the drug addicted world we live in. I'm just thankful I don't have it and will continue to pray daily for those who have it without casting judgement ❤️
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! It's rare that I read historical fiction and alas, I struggled with this one as a result. I'm sure most people are familiar with the Lindburg story, yet I recalled little about it prior to this novel. It was an interesting story, a story about the Lindburg's nanny, Betty, the last to see the baby alive. The novel tackles a lot of what if's and introduces many characters, some of which I had a hard time following. Overall it was an interesting read but not something I thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this beautiful, yet tragic story. A tale of two women who arrive in a new city on the same day, but whose paths don't cross until one finds the other dead, murdered in a park. It's a story about how some men think they can do whatever they want to their female counterparts, raping and murdering them and then tossing aside their bodies like trash. It was absolutely heartbreaking yet I couldn't put it down. A story that will resonate with me for a long time. A story of so many girls whose lives have tragic endings because of the evil in this world. Thank you Jacqueline for writing it. The ending, of what could have been, was absolutely incredible. ❤️
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! This novel started out great. A wreck involving four teenage girls. When emergency crews arrived, only one was in the car. The other three girls are gone without a trace. Years later, the mystery is still unsolved. This one fell flat for me. The story of what actually happened to these girls years ago was just too far fetched. And the fact that the perpetrator was never caught seemed a little too good to be true. Very unrealistic and also hard to follow for me. Too much going on.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! Jade has found the man of her dreams in Wells. There's just one catch, Sylvie, his ex-wife turned mute, who requires constant care. Wells insists on keeping her nearby where he can care for her. Jade is impressed with Wells' concern for ex-wife's well being. When Sylvia's caretaker has to leave for a family emergency, Jade is left with no choice but to check on her, and what she learns from that one visit has her questioning her marriage. She begins to spend more time with Sylvie and after learning from Well's mother that things aren't exactly what they seem, she has no choice but to confront her husband and save Sylvie and herself. While this was an okay read, I just didn't love it, nor was I drawn to any of the characters.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this beautifully written novel. A story about two families and the tragedies that tear them apart and bring them together. A story about how one decision alters the course of an entire family and how they cope with the outcome. Interwoven with the story of another family, with a gifted child who doesn't fit it, who's father can't understand and takes out his frustration on his only child. As the story moves forward, we learn more about what makes these people: Benjamin, Sarah, Theo, Shankman and Waldo; move forward and accept what they cannot change. A story about not only forgiving others but most importantly, forgiving ourselves. ❤️
