You care about the main characters- Finlay, Vero, and Nick - but the plot is just too madcap slapstick for me. I read but skim through the most implausible parts.

Why are all fantasy books a trilogy?

Why do fantasy novels always need a triptych? Is the middle one worth reading?

It would be amazing to talk with a partner like this!

I'm not very interested in the lives of NYC wealthy. Couldn't finish it.

Started reading this series years ago. Starting over

I knew the ending, the plot arc and who would be the bad guy by the end of chapter two. Nothing new here. Skipped and skimmed my way to the end.

Light and fun, but smart too.

Storyline so good through first three quarters but fell flat through the finish. 2.5 stars.

A horrifying look at a woman's place in the world circa 1960s. Unfortunately, some men's behavior is only marginally better. Ending was a bit predictable.

Slap stick comedy is just not my thing. Skipped through to return early to library.

Interesting plot including Covid. The stalemate in relationship of Ruth and Nelson is tiring. End it or move it on!!!

A favorite author for his his Sean Duffy series. This one is made for a movie.

I wanted to fall into the slapstick situation of Finlay and enjoy the goofy ride. This book had fun and laugh out loud moments. Unfortunately, much of the plot was cringe worthy. Still worth reading, but it will take many 4+ star reviews to have me read the next installment.

Worth the read for an older book. I can't see reading the subsequent titles in the series.

Thought provoking!

Very graphic and detailed. I listened to an audio book and I think I will read the next in the series. I can more easily skip through parts that are too grim and reread to pull together plot lines.

Why do authors write trite predictable “fillers” in their series books?! I will skip the next book that is written to get the detective out of prison and back on force. Gahhh

Have loved most of the series. This one seems to have been written more as a placeholder and to slowly move forward the Serrailler family personal plot lines.

Books, libraries, and academia sounded wonderful. Came off as trite and petty.
