This was super insta love, and the communication with this couple was lacking, just straight into “I love you, I can't be without you” automatic insta love. Normally I don't have a problem, but this was just not for me.
The family element was nice, the “dangerous missions” were barely that, and overall, I'm just not impressed with this one at all.

An emotional story of survival during a time of war, this was a very beautifully written book about a girl struggling to keep her brothers alive and safe. Set during the 1950's with war between North Korea and South Korea, the Soviets and the Communists, this deeply immersive middle grade story is based on true events and goes into detail about what the poor and poverty stricken people went through as those in charge struggled for rights of dominance. This was a truly exceptional debut novel, with bonus photographs of the people in the book at the end of the book, clear historical references, and a detailed accounting of the main characters journey to safety. I highly recommend this, and advise you have a box of tissues prepared! 5 ⭐!
Surprised by how much I enjoyed this, Richard Jury was a likeable, interesting detective from Scotland Yard that had a lot of strange murders to solve. It had humor, and I read it at the perfect setting, as it takes place right at Christmas. So excellent and unexpected timing on my part. Definitely continuing with this series. 5 ⭐.
