I enjoyed the concepts and world that this was building, however, I could feel how this was the first published work for Brandon compared to the Mistborn Era 1 saga and Warbreaker. It's magic system is very interesting in how it works and who can use it. I am looking forward to the proper sequel as more of the magic in the world is explored and how it links his novella, The Emperor's Soul
The perfect start for getting into the fantasy genre for non readers. Well thought out magic system with great characters that you learn about the world alongside.
Compared to Mistborn: The Final Empire and Stormlight Archive: The Way of Kings, it has a much slower start. It does a really good job building up into the world and exploring the plot points. It made me really come to enjoy all the characters and look forward to the world being explored in future releases, but I know if you need the plot to get moving there's a good chance you'll bounce off this book. I think the magic system is decently explored, but definitely not to the level of the other books by Brandon Sanderson.
So much pays off from book 2. Amazing step further into the Cosmere as it opens you up more to the concepts that are shared between Brandon Sanderson's universe.
