So, I have attempted to read this twice.
The first time I started to read this I did DNF it. I got to 20%-25% before I DNF'd. The reason why is because I was not sure if I was bored, stressed out due to school, or just too overwhelmed with life. So, I put the book down and left it alone.
This time in 2022, I wanted to try to read this again because life has calmed down. I managed to make it to 45%-50% of the book before I DNF'd it once again. The characters did not leave an impression on me. As soon as I ended my 30 minutes a day reading time I would forget them. I was tired of the repetition. And, some other factors within this book.
I think 2 stars is appropriate, I might recommend this book to someone that has not read in a long time, or I would not recommend this at all.
Not a bad second book. Never got around to reading this in middle school when it came out due to not liking the first book in but I am glad that I finally did read it. Although some of the characters do bother me, maybe it is just because I am older and this was written for teens. Still a good book, but not really my cup of tea.
UGGGG, I dislike this book so much it is unreal. Yes, I know, it is a criminal court book and it is not supposed to be fun. But I could not wait until it was done and over with. The information is good but also outdated. I just want to read one of these books that are up to date with current information.
Update: Ugg, i don't know. Not a bad book But I still do not understand why many over hyped this book. It is still lack luster for me. I'm just gonna rate it three stars and leave it at that.
It has been a long time since I have actually read the book, but from what I can remember. I never understood the hype for this book. It was decent in my opinion, but I never finished it because I got bored with it.
I will read it again an will update the review. But read the book if your intrested in reading it.

This (to me) is a manga that is very similar to Inuyasha, but it doesn't have a reincarnated presist and scared jewell. The art work is good, the plot and story are there but since it is only the first volume it lacks. There are many aspects that lack but I am sure will be covered in later volumes. I would recommend this for ages 10 to 13 to read. There is blood so trigger warning if that is not up your alley.
Now, Nanoka loses her mom and dad in sinkhole that appears out of no where. Someone or something evil is behind that event.
We then see her complaining about her morning shake that she drinks because her grandparents believe she is frail and weak..
Next she is chased by yokai (praying mantis creature) Mao appears and saves her and heals her.
Next she starts to feel weird and questions herself, looks for Mao finds him then time travels to 1923 (not through a well like inuyasha).
So yeah, modern day inuyasha. Decent.
Many other reviewers have already articulated my thoughts. Please go read theirs. Its the ones star ones.
All I can say is this book is just trauma/abuse dumping, cliche, predictable has been done before in a better way.
I really want to give it one star because I have read emotionally riveting books but this type of writing is a hit or miss. It is so easy to cross the line of to much and to little. Staying in the middle while captivating the audience is a hard thing to do.
For me, I was annoyed with this book since chapter one. There was to much..... well..... I'm just gonna stop here.
The first book was great and this one is great as well. Finished reading The Fires of vengeance about two weeks ago. All I can say is OMG, YESSS...!!! I have read many books and the last time I was truly invested in a book, was when the seventh book of harry potter was published and that was 2007. I was in seventh grade y'all. I hope Evan Winters keeps this up. I am deeply invested. I hope more people find out about Evan Winters to experience these wonderful books. I learned about these books through a YouTuber. I was not disapointed.
This is one of the better books that I have read for criminal justice degree. All the other books I have read for my classes have been outdated and this book finally reflect current issues that have been happening since 2001ish-2017ish and some older issues. It does have similar data, facts, and paragraphs as other criminal justice books that you will probably read for you degree.
I was impressed that this book finally mentions BLM movement, minorities and First Nation communities. Granted, I wish it was a whole chapter on each minority community instead of just a 500 word essay about them. BUT it was a nice change to learn more about the minority communities that actually reflected current conflicts they have with the police.
I do wish there was more about those groups but its better than just reading outdated statistics about how many are in jail vs. white in 1990, or how those groups are apparently overrepresented in jail. Do not get me wrong, I love looking at that data it adds to the book to prove the point but it was refreshing that this had current data.
Now for me, the only thing I did not like in this was it focused on LA, Huston, Chicago and New York when it came to the minority communities, which I understand why. To me that was redundant to every other book out there. It would have been refreshing to focus on Maine, Arizona or another place that has a large Indigenous population, or El Paso for another minority communities and so on so forth. Focusing on different Cities around the country would have been more insightful.
Anyway good book.

I debated for a while if it should be 3 stars but I am just going to leave it at 4.
It is a very well written book, very good story but I personally did not feel emotional like others have said. When it came to that deep emotional part, I just felt neutral but that is just who I am in real life. Still a good book to read.
Were to start.
So I recieved this book as an gift or something. Wwwwaaayy, wayyyy back ago and never read it in a one year sitting due to how many pages it had (9902).
Maybe it is a glitch on my kindle or something but there is 9902 pages all different and no repeating of chapters. An im gonna be honest with ya, I was bored reading it. I started this in 2013 maybe earlier and finally got around to finishing it off just because.... Anyway, 3 stars just because I don't truly do not remember the whole book. Nor am I going to sit through this again.
