A love letter to writers and writing, felt like sitting and talking with a friend.

Thoughtful, insightful, and offered some incredibly helpful language and frameworks!

Still haven't learned who sent this book to my house for me to read, but given what it's about I have no complaints! Seamless connection of dozens of different stories, entertaining and memorable characters, and a clean ending. I wish I could live like Margarita Nikolayevna 😞

I was worried that knowing the ending would ruin the book, but it was really enjoyable the whole way through! I think Poirot is perhaps a gay man.

Loved this when I was a kid, and love it more now ❤️❤️

Informative without being too prescriptive. Can seem a bit gatekeep-y at times, but seems to be all in the interest of spreading honest knowledge.

Refreshingly contemporary.

Lovely, quiet, and thought provoking. Wish I had my own copy to read and read again!

Incredibly helpful, easy to understand, and easy to follow along with! I'll probably be rereading this for the rest of my life.

Heard about this book for years with lots of high praise (esp from creative writing profs). Definitely should have read it early - incredibly beautiful and poetic. Love how rhetorical concepts are woven into some of the essays, and love the through line of language failing.
