Shadows Upon Time

So Sun Eater is over and I feel bereft. It has been an absolutely epic ride from start to finish but I don't feel like it's over. The last couple of chapters left a lot of loose ends which could lead to stories following other characters or even Hadrian himself.

For this book specifically, it's not my favourite. There were some stand out moments (Alexander's betrayal, the show downs between Hadrian and Dorayaica, Ushara taking over everyone, all the scenes with William and Hadrian) but it felt bloated and really could have been edited down a little.

I've listened to the whole series on audio and found Samuel Roukin to be an excellent narrator, but I know I will reread this in physical form and take more time with it. As a series it is unforgettable.

Never Let You Go

Okay so I will definitely be getting more from this author asap, this was so good!

Honestly when I'm in the right mood, a good tense domestic thriller just ticks all my boxes and this was one of those times.

This one had a few layers which really worked well and I didn't guess the big twist!

The Dry

The Dryby

This is not an edge of your seat, non-stop action thriller. This is a slower paced mystery where the atmosphere and storylines are woven together and seep under your skin.

I loved the setting in this one - the heat and the drought of rural Australia is described so well and really affects the story. I'm always a fan of a small town mystery too, so this was a big hit with me. It actually reminded me of some of Karin Slaughter's books which I'm a massive fan of.

I've immediately ordered the next 2 books following Aaron Falk so will be diving into those soon.

Engines of Chaos

After a bit of a slower start, this really picked up speed in the second half and didn't stop. There was a lot of political scheming and maneuvering in this one, with some shocking mouth open moments. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this wraps up in book 3!

I switched between physical and audio towards the end of this one, and I have to shout out the audiobook which is a full cast for all of the POVs and was really well done.

Definitely an underrated series which I hope gets some more love!
