i've been excited to read this for years and it turned out to be the biggest disappointment.
The book could be a million times shorter, i don't need to read 3 whole pages about lightning lighting up the sky... like i get it.
Characters had no personality, book was way too slow paced and not enough stuff happened given how long the book was.
i skimmed some pages because they just ramble and ramble
you know when you're reading something so boring that your brain starts saying to you “blah blah blah blah blah blah blah” yeah.. the last quarter of this book was just that. Blah blah blah BLAH blAH blah blah blah.
the copy i own of this book has rainbow edges so that's cool i guess but not cool enough to raise it's star rating.
so i read Stolen back in 2014 and it's been my favourite book since then, never been moved from the number one space and no book has come near to the masterpiece that is Stolen. Stolen is one of my most re-read books and it's just so beautifully written...... now to get on to this book.
Was this book needed? no. the beauty of stolen was the different feelings it left people with. Some thought it was a love story (and i think this book was aimed at those people) but others (me) thought it was a book about a disturbed adult man who stalked a child and kidnapped her for a fantasy. Everytime i read it i do not see a love story, i see love and i know they cared for each other (under the circumstances they were in) but i don't think it was ever a love story but i'm just the reader so what do i know?
What did this book add to the story line? nothing. It destroyed the characters for me. I was 15 when i read it and now i'm 23 and the characters have aged 10 years, we've all transformed into adults but i think the characters changed too much.
Stolen will forever be my favourite book and i don't see it going down in ranks ever but i will continue to think of it as a solo book. This sequel doesn't exist to me.. it feels so jarringly different from the first book. Stolen will always and forever have my heart but this book just wasn't needed.
Why rate this 3 stars then? first of all, beautiful writing as always from Lucy Christopher (sorry about this review lucy christopher.. you're still my favourite author i promise). Second of all, it is a good book... on it's own.
I have a Stolen shrine in my book room, i collect the book because duh its my favourite thing of all time but i'm not sure if i'm gonna put this book anywhere near that shrine because as i said before, i'm going to continue to think that stolen is a solo book.

so who was gonna tell me my favourite book of all time now has a sequel????? It was released a couple days ago and i didn't know??????????????
i saw the movie a decade ago and a couple times since and i never knew it was based off a book.. so anyways i already know what happens and how it ends but this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and i nearly DNFed because it stressed me out so much (from the TW- animal abuse) but i prevailed and here i am just a little bit more traumtized but ok with it
this is a very hyped book but also a very hated book so i was wary... popular and hated? i'll probably hate it then right? wrong. I liked it! I loved the writing so much and the character development was great and i didn't guess what would happen half way through the book like i do with some mystery books and i only guessed 2 pages before it happened so yay?
the book creeped me out and actually scared me which was unexpected and i do think i'll have trouble shaking this story off me but that means it was a great read.... just a bit scary for me :((((
this is a very quick but important read! I lost the book when i was half way into it... found it under my bed though thank god because i liked this book and wanted to finish it!
Australias future looks grim but i think we can make some small changes to keep us green and healthy (or sandy and healthy) and this book inspired me to do some charity work for the enviroment!
4.5
it's like The Secret Garden but gothic
SPOILERS FOR BOTH THE SECRET GARDEN AND THIS BOOKsimilarities between The Secret Garden and this book:-orphans get sent to their uncles house that never wanted them-male cousin is sick and gets forced to stay in bed-male cousin thinks they are doomed to die-both aunts are also dead-dead mums ghost comes to visit them -trying to get past a wall to see a garden-everyone is secretive whats in the garden and tells them to never go in there-magic plants-welcomed into family at the end-and many more but its 10pm and im tired
also mute character that doesn't miraculously talk at the end! as a mute girl its sad to see that mute people only get to have happy ending if they talk but being mute is fine and we can have happy endings too!
it's one of those books where you don't remember anything that happened in it in a weeks time and in a years time you won't even remember if you read it or not... it's a very flat book.
The characters felt kinda real but everything else just fell flat.
I can relate to the main character bc mental issues, dead father, sister who tells me to k*ll myself, ghosting the men who confess they like me..etc etc
so that was cool I guess
idk... very flat. 100 cakes and they never made one that sounded appetising. Where is the chocolate cake???
One of the best books i've ever read. An instant new favourite and a book i know i'll read over and over again as i age.
If you like The Hunger Games then you'll looove this. So many similarities but also so uniqually different.
You'll go crazy reading this, it feels like your walking until you collapse and die, you get so tired reading this and you can feel every ache and pain the characters are feeling.
It's a short book but it's also a Stephen King book so the characters are so well written and you feel like you've known them for your whole life. Some of these characters will stick with me for ages, especially McVries. He is one of Kings best characters.
alright listen.... SJM is my favourite author and i trust her with my life but girl wtf is this book???
I know smut is a big trend right now but there is such thing as too much smut. The storyline is just smut. I'm happy that sex positivity is being talked about and being included in books but when sex is favoured over telling a story... just upload that shit to wattpad. Smut books are great but this is a fantasy erotica book... i'm expecting action and magic at least a couple times.
I don't need to know when a male characters balls twitch every other chapter, i need to know the plot line.
never thought SJM would do this but she really made the main character one of those people who joke at the worst times. Bryces life would be on the line and here she is thinking shes doing stand up comedy. Like girl be SERIOUS for once. Idk but being sarcastic to people who are about to kill you is a bad move idk. I love funny characters but theres a time and a place. I can't connect emotionally to a story or characters if they arent serious in serious incidents.
Hunt is very plain and boring to me. Another Fae male with a big willy.... its getting old at this point.
"you're my mate" STFU WITH THE MATE SHIT. Can we not have a couple that are just simply in love but not tied together by this mate stuff? If i hear "you're my mate" ever again in a SJM book...
the end sucks btw. but when the ACOTAR characters showed up... maybe my jaw dropped a lil bit but i'm sick of that crew too so yeah the end sucks
I would do anything to go back to the Throne of Glass times. Bring back my man Chaol bruv
a really quick read but it packs a punch
i love survival stories but i feel like short survival stories like this book shouldn't exist. Survival stories need at least 500 pages. The longer we know the characters fighting for survival and the longer we are immersed in the survival situation ourselves (reading it not actually surviving it lol) then the more we can connect and immerse ourselves into the pain of survival (if that makes sense?)
longer survival books make for good endings idk
I read my first colleen hoover book in 2014, Maybe Someday , and i've read many of her books since then (but its been a while since i read her books.. excluding the re-read of IEWU) but my favourite book of hers is Confess (read 2015). Confess remained SUPERIOR, her best book by far... until now... maybe???
I think i like Confess a little bit more but the plot twists in this book threw me around the room and drowned me, like how can i not like it???? I was scared going into this as i haven't read a new colleen hoover book in a while as i only read them when my mind is ready.. sounds weird but you understand right? her books are the type of books that need you present and completely aware when reading.
So i picked this book up as i was in a big reading slump and only CH could solve it.
Spoilers from here on!! just warning in case the spoiler tag doesn't work!!
sooo... am i morally wrong for saying i side with jeremy? Whether Verity killed Harper or not.. she was too convincing in her manuscript and what kind of person would write something like that after their daughters death?? Why would you turn your daughters death into a little fantasy story?? Grief is an insane thing, especially when it comes to children loss but it doesn't look good for her. I felt sad for verity (if she is innocent) for losing her kids and then being accused and then her husband attempting to kill her 3 times (and the 4th attempt got her ass) and then resorting to fake being brain dead (not the right term but i can't think of the right term rn). Did she fake it so she had to stay with her husband and still control him or did she not fake it? Guess we'll never know. I think she killed her kid tbh.Jeremy (and all of us) thought she killed her own kid so he acted accordingly. Child killers get no sympathy from me.anyways i hope jeremy and whatever the main characters name is live happily ever after with crew and the new baby lol
