Everyone knows Misery! Crazed fan of author Paul Sheldon rescues him from a car crash only to hold him hostage in her house as she spirals to mental insanity.
I finally read it! Glad I did. I was originally going to give it four stars cause it was a little slow and I hated the book within a book! But the second half really ramped up and it got super SUPER good! Wow, Annie really loses it. And it's really fun to watch her lose and the amount she tortures Paul is crazy! Wow, some of that I just wasn't expecting! Coming in to the book I didn't know the extent that she went to. I didn't know how many people on her past she had murdered! It was intense and I loved it.
Let's talk about that ending! Mr. King has a tendency to write not the best endings ever. Well this one DELIVERED!
I needed Annie to be dead! And she was. THANK YOU! However, first King teases us with them not finding her in the room! What! 😱 but she's found in the barn with her mits curled around a damn chainsaw! Badass.
I needed him to keep Misery's Return and publish it! And he did! THANK YOU!
Great ending! And the psychological stress and torture through was amazing.
Really met my expectations!
I enjoyed it. I got invested in the characters. The last half went much faster, but it just wasn't exactly my cup of tea. I didn't hate it. Didn't even dislike it, just wasn't what I was wanting maybe? Glad I read it, can add another King book to my read pile! But probably don't ever need to read it again.
