This was ADORABLE. I loved Morgan, Tristan and Lancelot, and the adventure they went on to try and find Merlin. My only little issue was that the conflict with Mab and Nimue did feel a little rushed towards the end but I loved the story! I also would have loved to have seen more of Tristan and Lancelot's love story, as they only realised their feelings at the very end. Maybe this will be a nice set up for more adventures :)
This was amazing!!! I loved the way supernatural beings were living alongside humans, and the issues both might face along the way were explored.
Charlie and Lorenzo were incredible, even at the start when they very much didn't like each other! (Or rather, Lorenzo hated Charlie) I loved their chemistry throughout, and Charlie's advice column was really fun to read.
Of course it wouldn't be a romance without issues near the end, but I found that it was resolved wonderfully and I was really happy with how it ended.
I loved all the characters, and Lorenzo's roommates were awesome too. I'd love to read more with these characters in!
I didn't expect to adore this quite as much as I did! I knew it was going to be a treat going in, but I just fell in love with all the characters.
The book has its own illustrations by the author, who also acts as the main character in the story, encountering some beautiful and unusual birds with fantastically unique stories.
We meet Vernon, Quentin, Madge and Connie, and as they sit for portraits, we hear all about love stories and romantic interests, with the turkey sisters at the centre of attention!
I'm really excited to get started on book two, and I just know it's going to have the same fun and whimsical feel to it. An excellent read for any age.
I really, REALLY loved this! I had read the previous book in this series (although they are interconnected standalones so you can jump right in at this one!) and really loved it, so I knew I was in for a treat here.
We follow Floris, a Dutch prince with a bad reputation in the media which isn't his fault, as he goes to study in an American college to get to experience being a normal guy. He is assigned a roommate, shy and studious Orson, and Floris is determined to help him get out of his shell.
I loved learning about Dutch culture from Floris and New Orleans culture from Orson, as they shared it with each other (and compared stroopwafels and beignets).
Floris helps Orson with a family situation and the two begin to grow closer and their relationship gradually develops. The two are concerned about what this might mean, and Floris is worried that Orson might not be able to handle the media attention.
The book was really beautifully written and I couldn't put it down! I loved these characters so much, even as much as the characters in book one, and I can't wait for the next book in the series because I just KNOW it's going to completely blow me away! It's such an amazing series and I love how the dynamics of a royal/commoner pairing are explained in each book.
This was a really sweet love story! I loved the idea of a teacher falling in love with the dad of one of his students, and the two were really perfect together. I did often get frustrated when the two wouldn't communicate properly but this was more to do with their personalities and it all worked out in the end. I love this author's style and definitely want to read more!
I have no words to describe my love for this book. Medusa is such a misunderstood character and this book really covers that. We see Medusa from a very young age, up to when Poseidon attacks her and Athena curses her, and then her inevitable death. But in between we see her other relationships and her loves and enemies, and I really loved the depth of this book. The author is fantastic at writing myth and I can't wait to read more of her work!
This was a really interesting book! I liked that the chapters were very short as each was by a different contributor, and some were more interesting to me than others but they all worked very well together. There were a lot of mentions of HP in there so I wasn't keen on that, but they were people's opinions and so I just moved on and didn't focus too much on that. Other than that, the book was fantastic and I loved getting an insight into the book industry from the points of view of librarians and booksellers.
I was absolutely blown away by this! I don't often read thriller-type books but I have enjoyed YA thrillers recently and this one just worked so well. It featured many different character personalities, some of which clashed and others which worked well together, and a main ‘villain' amongst the group, as they worked to figure out the true villain behind their dangerous and deadly predicament. The ending absolutely shocked me and I really didn't see it coming at all!! I really liked the author's style and would definitely read more.
This was such a beautiful follow-up to book one and I am falling more in love with these characters as I read them! I don't know what else to say other than this book was really fantastic and I'm so happy I got the chance to borrow it from my library because it's a great read. Definitely worth checking out this series if you like fantasy.
I really enjoyed this book! I've always had an interest in Japan but wondered how different it would be for a foreigner like me to get used to the different culture and customs. This book follows the author's journey as she not only stays in Japan but lives there for several months.
I loved experiencing the different aspects of daily Japanese life through the author's writing and thought that the various anecdotes were amusing and sometimes very surprising!
Something I really liked were the haiku interludes throughout the book, separating each chapter as a way to digest the information just read in the previous section, and the accompanying artwork was incredibly beautiful and very inspirational.
The book was a short but very sweet read and I really liked the author's writing style, and it made me really want to go travelling! I would definitely recommend this to any other fans of Japan or travelling in general, as it was a fantastic and very easy read.
This was amazing!! I loved Mia as a character and really rooted for her throughout the book, especially when it came to her podcast- and I did feel angry on her behalf when people commented rude things and made assumptions about her! The romance in this was beautiful and very well written, and I really want more by this author, especially if it's more sports romance! I'd definitely recommend this to any other fans of F1 romance or those looking to get into the sub genre. It's a fantastic read!
This was a short but beautiful story about a young man visiting his grandfather, who tells him the story of a remarkable horse called Joey -the book is the sequel to War Horse and Joey is the horse in the title- and all about his father's adventures after the war and how he won a prized tractor for the farm. It is a very short read but a very enjoyable one, and I have to admit that I haven't read War Horse yet but I really will have to, now!
I was even more amazed by this one than I was by book one (also incredible).
I loved the mystery and conflict surrounding the characters and really loved seeing the relationship between Rhys, Moira and David developing beautifully-and Moira's my favourite character so far, so I loved seeing her come into her own and become more confident in her powers.
The book is absolutely fantastic and if you liked book one (Evocation), or you were a fan of the author's other work, you NEED to check this one out!
And for anyone unfamiliar to the series, this is an incredible urban fantasy with secret societies and all sorts of conjurors and psychics. The paranormal aspect of the book lies in demon summoning and other arcane practices and makes for a really gripping tale.
I'm not always the best at describing books but I thoroughly enjoyed this and think others will too!
First of all, I loved the idea of exes working on a podcast together. Their banter was funny and l'd love to listen to a real podcast like that!
I wasn't overly keen on the characters' personalities but l think that was part of the idea, to show how varied and nuanced people can be, especially when there were so many other issues going on in their lives and- despite the podcast being called Ex Communicate - they weren't able to communicate their feelings very well. This led to many issues along the way and I didn't know which way was up!
This did grow on me, however, as it added depth and tension to the story, and I needed to keep reading to find out what happened to each character at the end. I'm glad that things worked out for many of the characters, and I think Mary was one of my favourites.
This was a fun read, full of the complexities and messiness of relationships, and the podcast theme was a great fit.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought the art style was beautiful and it really grabbed my attention, and the queer representation throughout was very well-written and I found it to be era-appropriate and well-researched. I loved reading about the history of the time located at the end of the book, and it really added to the overall story. All I can say is that I was sad for it to be over and I want more of these characters! George was my favourite but I thought the other characters were fantastic too.
I liked reading this as a graphic novel, as I find the full novel to be very daunting and this was a great introduction to the series, and a good foundation for reading the full novel in future. I found it relatively easy to follow and the art style was great.
I'd recommend it to anyone else wanting to become familiar with the story but being a bit unnerved by the size of book 1!
Ow. OUCH. This was so fantastic that I read it in just over a day (had to sleep in between, of course), and I'm absolutely blown away by this book.
Blaze was a fantastic protagonist and I loved watching her figure out her powers as the last rain singer, an incredibly rare Aquatori. I enjoyed reading about her new friends and seeing the trials with their different powers.
The twists and turns along the way blew my mind and the ending? WOW. I'm still heartbroken over some of the betrayals and twists at the end of the book, and I need MORE RIGHT NOW.
