Insightful and easy to read but disproportionately concerned with Western religions

It's easily my all-time favourite book. It's haunting, satirical, and emotional. It explores the devastation of war and political criticism in depth. The characters all have depth. Even though they have similar names and fates, they are still very distinct.

While reading this, I could imagine the rapid development of society in the previous century, as if I had been born, raised, and aged in Colombian society over 100 years, as if I just lived dozens of different lives at once. Although the book was written a long time ago, it still feels relevant and relatable. You can see the mistakes of previous generations continuing today, just like you are also repeating your family's mistakes as well as inheriting their qualities.

Some chapters are well-written but most of them are not. The philosophical analysis overall is quite shallow and pseudo-intellectual. Watching a TedEd video about Love is even more insightful. This book definitely did not meet my expectation.

There was nothing particularly remarkable about the plot, but the book gave me a strange, quiet sense of self-contentment while I was struggling with an identity crisis in my teenage years.

Please don't buy it. Should any friends of yours recommend this book, don't hang out with them. They must be attempting to kill your soul with such a plain, monotone and meaningless book.
It is such a miracle that the movie is fantastic while the original book is disastrous.
