2.5

cool formating, great audiobook but the story was just basic and very confusing (on purpose i'd imagine). i didn't guess who done it but I think it was impossible to do so despite the books tag line

this was so fucking disgusting but ig that's the point. 2 stars purely bc it was written very badly lol

1.5 stars

ouch this was bad ! every story was predictable and boring and nothing new. only liked 3 out of 11. this author is clearly not for me bc I've read one book by her before and guessed the whole plot after chapter 1.

end of the liner 3/5
the block 2/5
runaway blues 4/5
the completion 1/5
the lion at the gate 1/5
gloria 1/5
i'm not ted 2/5
final course 4/5
the copy shop 5/5
dust 2/5
butterfly island 1/5

this needs to be a movie

I finally came around to reading this book after trying like 5 times before but I wasn't ready. This was a hard and frustrating read but so good and important. I love that Vanessa isn't perfect, especially in the 2017 parts but as a reader you understand why she is like this and its just very sad. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is bc in my opinion it was too long, especially in the second half and there were moments where I zoned out bc nothing really happend. 50pg long chapters were also a little annoying to get thru

Great one for people who know nothing about the mystery or want to refresh their memory (me). There's no conspiracy theories and other crap, just a very well put together course of events and the aftermath of the tragedy.

4 stars purely bc I've never heard of magdalene laundries before and this book made me go into a rabbit hole to learn more. it was also well written and and I love the small community atmosphere in this one. so short yet made me care abt the characters and I feel like I know them which is insane and impressive to me

2.5?
first book I finished after a slump and it wasn't great. it's YA so was easy to read but god nothing happens in this book. the characters are all bland and if it wasn't for the names in the title I wouldn't know who's pov I'm reading. I do appreciate the rep but it wasn't enough for me to enjoy it. I usually love books about grief but this one was a miss. also I thought there would be some plot twist reveal at the end connecting all those deaths bc the story felt like it was going somewhere but it didn't ?

briar giving me a baby fever for 370 pages straight

this was very sad and depressing and yet again I really liked it. grown is still better in my opinion but this one is up there too. I just struggled with being confused for like 80% of the book and after it made sense i liked the story more. I think this has a reread potential too so maybe I will one day. tiffanny d jackson slowly becoming my fav author, can't wait to read her other stuff

3.5

this was a solid and quick read. u can pretty much guess the whole plot after reading the synopsis and i was expecting something more from this book idk

the yearning and its consequences

tell me why did I put this book away for so long. i really loved this one, yeah I guessed all the plot twists but ruth ware presents these stories in such way that I don't even care when they are predictable. this one even made me tear up at the end and I will for sure remember these characters just like I did with the turn of the key

so fucking boring. I'd dnf after one chapter if it wasn't for the fact that I paid full price for this book and I refuse to waste my money

20/01/24 reread:

that last page still making me suicidal

(also the amount of ppl shocked over how this book went makes me laugh so bad bc how did a ya series go over your head that bad lmao)

it was just fine, like the previous volumes. this series is too corny for me but I'm 5 volumes deep so might as well finish

idk abt this one. nothing was thrilling or twisty, it was just well written and interesting so it had me very invested but then nothing really happend. also the husband is still a pedo and I don't like how the book tried to change the narrative lol. also the last chapter has me very conflicted coz idk if she's lying or not but also it doesn't really change my opinion abt the book. based on the booktubers reactions I was expecting something way different and once again I was disappointed !

this is definitely a book. and I did read it.

oh I devoured this book in one day, it was so fucking good. such a infuriating, uncomfortable but also cringe (all the text messages where a grown ass man tried acting like a teenager) read. I was fighting between closing the book and punching the wall but also wanting to keep reading to find out what happens next. even tho it's a ya book it didn't feel like it at all, besides ofc the main characters age. it was so well written and gripping and the commentary was done so damn well I feel like this should be a necessary read for teens around enchated age. I cannot wait to read everything by Tiffany D. Jackson now

more like 2.5?

I loved the first 30% of the book and the set up and how the main character was created but then the book just went nowhere in my opinion. I loved all the little sections abt her memories from palestine or different cultural differences she noticed and the mother daughter relationship but sadly that was like maybe 20% of the book and I wanted more. I think that's usually my issue with the whole “girl failure in her 20s” genre, it never has a point and even if it touches on important issues here and there it's still not enough to justify the nothingness in between. but I'm aware it's just something I personally don't enjoy

this was a very sweet and cute story

this was fine, definitely the weakest one out of the 3 I've read so far but I still liked the couple and plot

I'm not one to read poetry because I often find it very intimidating and hard to understand but I decided to give this one a chance and I'm so glad I did. This was beautiful and devastating. I really love this type of poetry where the main goal is to invoke emotions and even the author himself in the interview at the end explained it in a similar way. And now my favourite poems from this collection:

- Palestine A-Z
- Palestinian Streets
- Sobbing Without Sound
- A Litany for “One Land”
- We Deserve a Better Death
- US and THEM
- The Wounds (this one broke me)

I really really recommend this even if u don't read poetry at all, it's very approachable.

boring but in a good way. also cried. also hate and love all the characters. also god bless omar and ahmed i love them dearly

3.5?? I'm not sure

this was a good read but took me a week so I lost the momentum + not sure abt the rep. the story itself was interesting and I loved the winter cabin in the woods setting. as for the scary factor it had maybe 2 scenes that made me feel something but overall it wasn't anything crazy
