I thought the plot was unrealistic, convenient and not enjoyable. Cultural/racial discrimination was more of a theme in the plot that I expected and liked.
I liked how psycho the MMC was and the dark romance tropes in the book but I hated the FMC and every single one of her family members.
I almost DNF a few times in the book but the writing is good. The characters and plot I very much didn't like
DNF 63%. The writing is engaging and plenty of spice. But it became way too dark even for me at the 50% mark with Paxton. The FMC was likeable and carried the book. The other two MMCs... I didn't find them all that likeable.
Sam Mariano always gives me the dark romance I'm after. Possessive MMC that steam rolls over defiant yet doormat FMC? Yes.
There were little parts of the plot that left me questioning what the point was as it didn't go anywhere e.g. the miscarriage mention towards the end that the MMC didn't even know about? I had assumed there was a secret half brother somewhere but it wasn't picked up again. Or the additional apartment key the FMC asked for. I thought she was going to try and escape but again nothing happened.
The epilogue was also meh. Torn on 4 or 5 stars because the MMC hasn't made top swoon worthy material but it does hit reread quality
Didn't read Sleeping Beauty as I read this as a stand-alone.
This book had a promising start with the whole hunt scene but I couldn't get into it afterwards. The two MCs had promise but I don't know... the plot and dialogue seemed basic? Cliche? DNF38%
This had promise but was really let down by the plot. I was actually pretty interested in this for the first 20% - it's so rare to find a good dark romantasy, it kept me guessing on who the MMCs were, and while I don't usually dig RH, I felt the FMC had good chemistry with both MMCs. The kiss scenes and the smut were actually good though there weren't many of them. And I liked the mates idea with the tattoos.
This book is more plot heavy however and I really didn't like the plot. It was also so cliche? One of the MMCs had lost their wings due to torture and as bad as I felt for him, for the wings to be kept in tact by the villain and then found for the FMC and easily reattached just made me roll my eyes. And the supposedly dead sister being alive again.
The pairing of Lucca and the other female side character felt forced and unnecessary
The MMCs actually weren't dark at all. There was non con between the FMC and non MMCs which I didn't like.
The writing wasn't mind blowing but it was okay - my issue was mainly with the plot.
This was so promising - the female lead on the run from the male lead with her nieces and nephews while secretly pregnant and a cunning male lead who loses his mind he has no idea where she is.
However, I reached 38% and ended up hating every character.
The two nieces are even more whiny, bratty and annoying than the first book. Even Josh was grating with how demanding he was for Ruslan's company. He was old enough to work out they were on the run and something wasn't the same about his aunt's relationship with Ruslan anymore, yet still kept asking to go to him. And his actions led to him being kidnapped.
The female lead has trouble with basic communication and is a pathetically reliant on the male lead. Instead of simply telling her nieces and nephews she and Ruslan aren't together anymore, we got pages of her being frustrated at all of them sulking and whining for him. The female lead has panic attacks that she needs the male lead to soothe and her pining after someone who told her she's just a vessel for his heir made me want to tell her she should have more self-respect.
Kirill sure accepted the female lead's explanation that she didn't sell Ruslan out to Remy easily for someone presented “evidence” to Ruslan of her betrayal that started the whole breakup arc in the first place. Kirill's response was that he believed the female lead's side of the story because it was a “logical” explanation. If so, why didn't they just wait to hear her side of the story in the previous book.
The male lead was just a jerk to the female lead in this book. He continues to refuse to listen any single thing about the female lead, which would have resulted in finding out about the pregnancy and resolved the whole ridiculous breakup arc in the first place. Instead, it all kept getting dragged out. And he was the one that wanted to go to the ultrasound, yet was on his phone and walked straight out after confirming the baby was healthy. This is his baby yet he didn't seem to care at all. At this point, I no longer wanted the two leads together.
I found I didn't care about any of the characters or the plot in this book though the writing itself was fine. I kept going to see if it would improve, it did a little but I still felt indifferent to the leading characters - didn't find them likeable and didn't buy their chemistry. DNF 67%
The side characters got so much screentime you could tell which ones would have spin-off books. It was too overdone
The steam was way too dirty for me, the daddy kink was too much and I didn't enjoy the FMC and MMC relationship. Also didn't enjoy the single dad execution in this
Didn't about any of the leads or their story. Stuck it out to see if there were any cute Mateo/Mia moments. There was one where Mia reveals she's having a boy
DNF 50%. The plot initially seemed promising with the main couple's first meeting but the plot became too unreasonable for me to continue reading. The forbidden aspect of their romance was so overblown and unnecessary given the main leads were not blood related at all and only met as adults.
The time jumps in this book also made the writing seem choppy.
It was almost a 3 star book but the ending confused me. You see, I'm glad Richard was a manipulative morally grey character but I didn't get the ending. Richard was so concerned about Elizabeth away into the island before she remembered everything but she didn't remember anything anyway? And the gunshot was not by Nicole but what about the phone? Was that actually by Nicole or was that by Richard.
I like reading smut but they're was a whole heap of punishment BDSM that I just wasn't a fan of. I enjoyed Romance's duet better
Another book where I am torn on 2 or 3 stars. I couldn't say I liked it and I couldn't say I disliked it. The plot was different, it had a lot of tropes I enjoyed. The MMC is manipulative and morally grey. It was enthralling enough that I wanted to know what was going to happen next but I don't see myself rereading any bits of it or shipping the two MCs together.
I loved this - the smut, the secret child trope, second chances and the MMC's possessiveness, but like the other reviewers, the MMC with the OW and the OW breastfeeding their baby felt gross to me as well
This should be deemed horror, not dark romance. It was well written and would have been a 5 star book for anyone who enjoys high tension horror. This is not romance
I was pretty torn on 1 or 2 stars for this book. I just didn't like the plot, it especially dragged at the end though the characters are OK.
This is a boss-employee dark romance with a male lead who secretly does things to keep the female lead spending time with him (booking out all hotel rooms) and removes other male interests. There is also birth control tampering and breeding kink. All tropes I tend to enjoy reading but none of these were explored fully enough for me.
Eg It was never made clear how the male lead's got rid of other male interests in the female lead's life. It was implied there was threatening or some other type of manipulation tactic to scare them off but it wasn't elaborated on. And when one showed up, the interest hightailed out so fast after a bit of questioning and a handshake from the male lead it was unsatisfying.
And did the male lead book out hotel rooms in other hotels as well or did he pay the receptionist to lie?
The male lead's sleep walking is the key trope in this book and I wasn't a fan. The female lead also gave in way too quickly for someone who hated the male lead.
Miscarriage is also a big theme in this book which again, wasn't a fan of.
Wouldn't reread though I'd give a different book by this author a go.
Torn between 3 and 4 stars. Almost DNF this book because I just was not buying the chemistry between the leads but omg did everything improve once the featherbone kicked in at the 30% mark. It was twist after twist that I could not see where the plot was going and it was incredible.
DNF 70%. It's a short smutty novella with breeding kink, lactation kink and cockwarming. I didn't really connect with either of the MCs and I wasn't feeling their chemistry
DNF 41%. The plot couldn't hold my interest and I wasn't feeling chemistry between the main couple. I probably could have forced myself to power through but I was indifferent to finishing it or not.
The female lead was too desperate for the male lead for my liking and the male lead was a hero misunderstood as a villain, which I didn't dig either
The whole pregnancy plot wasn't going in a direction I liked and I just wasn't that invested in the romance. DNF 43%
I liked the second chance romance between the main couple - the main leads were so sweet and devoted to each other - but I hated the whole mystery plot and how much of it was devoted to the side couple Cassie and Riordan - I found myself skipping through chapters because of it.
I also didn't dig how much fatphobia there was in it.
Would not reread
The writing is so choppy - the scene changes abruptly. I kept going because the plot was interesting with a dark possessive MMC but the MMC was so physically abusive to the FMC I no longer could see their chemistry. DNF 10%
DNF 42% - This book got too dark for me. Non con of FMC by characters other than the MMC and a dildo scene that was way too much for me to read further
I really liked this second chance romance and rooted for the main couple. Divorced couple with kid and good pining
DNF 25%. None of the characters were likeable, and I didn't care for them. The insertion of multiculturalism seemed forced and didn't make sense. The writing style wasn't for me either. I couldn't even force myself to keep reading to get to the smut. Did get to some BDSM elements but it wasn't an enjoyable read for me
