I was put off reading this book for a long time because imagining the MMC with the FMC when he's married to someone else gave me the ick. To my surprise, I got into the book really quickly and was rooting for the two together.
The book could have been more steamy and I liked all the characters well enough though I didn't love them but it was a quick engaging read I devoured in one setting with tropes I liked.
It was a solid five stars until the elite became Team Starling, then started to get a bit boring
I really liked the first 60% - the steamy scenes were so good, though I wasn't the biggest fan of the MM scenes. However from 80% I skimmed and DNF. It became plot focussed and the plot wasn't great
After reading the cliffhanger at the end of the first book, I was expecting kidnapping, rescue then bonding between the MCs. This story is DARK HORROR, and not a dark romance at all like the first book.
The first 50% is the FMC being sex trafficked, physically and sexually abused. A lot of non-con between the FMC and people who are not the MMC - it's graphic, awful to read and the suffering never seems to end. It's a miracle the FMC didn't commit suicide.
The next 30% is the FMC being so traumatised that she can't stand being around the MMC.
The last 20% is the FMC overcoming her trauma with revenge and being willing to pick up her romance with the MMC.
The book was so dark it was depressing and traumatising with so little romance.
I only continued reading to see how the MMC and FMC were going to pick up their romance again and get their HEA. I did not expect to spend 50% reading about FMC's suffering and the MMC having no idea where the FMC is. No romance whatsoever, they didn't even have any scenes together
None of the side characters were likeable - the FMC's parents especially were a piece of work.
I'm sorry I really wanted to like this book after the first book but this was too dark.
Promising start as I could see some chemistry between MMC and FMC and the world seemed quite original but DNF 23%. The romance and the plot were meh. I just wasn't invested enough to continue
Wow. What a story. This was difficult to rate. I can see why this duet is highly recommended. The writing, plot and characters are really something.
Young Mina, the FMC, is an adorable, endearing and bubbly child that no one can resist. And seeing how Shay, the MMC, instantly softens at the playground and becomes her biggest supporter and protector melted me. How cute was the scene where Mina made Shay a flower crown because she didn't have enough money to buy him a real one?
I really enjoyed reading about their journey together. That scene where the FMC is tricked into the woods, charms the secondary male character and invokes the protective side of MMC was my favorite. The second favorite are probably the scenes where the FMC's mother tries to run away with the FMC only for the MMC and his father to refuse to let them go - this happens twice and I enjoyed both. The relationship between Mina and James as well as the relationship between Mina and Shay were so pure and full of love. The hugs and protectiveness Shay and James gave Mina lifted my spirits and I really loved reading about them
The story becomes more sinister as the FMC opens her eyes to the darker side of the MMC and his father, with the MMC becoming increasingly possessive/jealous/obssessed and the FMC begins a new healthier relationship with the secondary male lead.
I liked seeing the MMC's manipulative side but I do also see FMC's chemistry with the secondary male character so I'm not sure who I root for more.
It was a four stars, not quite 5 stars until the gruesome flashback scene at the end which was a bit too much for me. I also thought pacing slowed down somewhere towards the middle when the FMC began dance practice in the abandoned theatre, the mom becoming an alcoholic and the MMC breaking down crying after the FMC is mad at him. I felt the MMC started fading into the background a bit too much, his powerful image diminished and I also felt some of the the chemistry between the FMC and MMC was lost. For that I reduced it from 4 stars to 3.
I absolutely devoured the book before the pacing slow down though and still finished the whole book in a day.
My interest is peaked at the FMC's mom's revelation at the end where she says she was trapped in the relationship with the MMC's father, can't leave and was manipulated into missing the FMC's dance recital. I also wonder what the MMC's dad told the mom over the phone
I liked all the characters. I especially loved young protective Shay and young Mina - the flashback scenes with them I could definitely see myself rereading - they were a real joy to read. The writing was great and hooked my quickly
DNF 23%. I tried to like this but I couldn't connect with any of the characters and couldn't see any chemistry. I don't think alien romances are really my thing.
I was torn between rating this a 2 or 3 star. I didn't exactly like or dislike the book. It was OK. I didn't dislike the main leads though I didn't exactly like them either. I like a cold male lead he's too cold to the female lead for my liking. And the female lead does make some dumb decisions.
The arrangement is interesting enough that I'll be reading the next book. I'm curious how the male lead will react to her phone pen pal as well.
I can't envision myself wanting to reread this book though
DNF 36%. I really had to push myself to keep reading as I didn't find any of the characters likeable and I didn't find the writing engaging. The two MCs had no chemistry.
I was torn between 2 or 3 stars for this book. There's a bit more smut which I liked, some jealousy scenes with Tristan showing his possessive side and there was a good plot twist at the end which I didn't see coming, but I can't say I liked the book.
I would have continued with the rest of the series to see how the plot line resolves but the author is changing the MCs. I didn't really like Amara and Dante as a couple and I'm not invested enough in the world to want to keep reading
DNF 61%. I really wanted to like this because I've seen this recommended a lot but I didn't find myself interested in the two MC's developing relationship. I don't think they had chemistry and the plot didn't hold my interest either
This story took a while to get into but it picked up at the first smut scene at around the 40% mark. The plot and the characterisations were good. The chemistry was there. Didn't hit reread quality but I'm super excited for the next book because I can't wait to see what the author will put this couple through next, now that they're together.
This book does end on a cliffhanger but it's actually a solid ending to this first book too.
Great plot twist. It's just the amount of bone and death in this was a lot and not something a tend to love reading. I still hate that the FMC died in the previous book. Necessary for plot line but I liked her best when she was human. More innocent. The plot ended up being action packed and the relationship dynamics changed. The grovel was great. I just wasn't looking for an action packed book and preferred the relationship dynamics of the first book.
I could see this being someone else's 5 star book thiugh
This is actually a 5 star book in terms of chemistry, writing and plot. It's just the amount of bone and death in this was a lot and not something a tend to love reading
DNF 50%. I loved the start of this fic but I just got to the point where I wasn't in love with any of the characters (the MCs or the side characters) so I didn't have an interest to continue. The plot also just dragged for me...
It was good but I just felt the whole thing dragged. So many times from 30% onwards I was tempted to DNF but I kept at it. Thank goodness because I actually am really looking forward to book 2. It looks like it's when the dark romance will begin
I wanted to like this looking for a smutty rh breeding book but the was actually really difficult to follow and I lost interest. DNF 30%
The plot and romance in this one was really good. I enjoyed this a lot better than the first book though I did enjoy seeing the developments of the FMC and MMC in the first and can see myself rereading both books of this duet. Unfortunately not all plot lines were resolved at the end of this book but it was still a satisfying enough HEA
The plot of this book was enthralling and is the key for 5 stars even though it had less romance than my typical 5 star reads. I just did not see any of the plot developments coming and I really felt for the FMC especially as she dealt with love, heartbreak, betrayal and grief. I really liked both MCs and their love in this book and can see myself rereading though Missha annoyed me in both books
A second chance dark romance.
What the female lead goes through in this book is horrible and the male lead doesn't deserve her. I finally couldn't take the plot anymore and DNF at 82% jumping to the epilogues.
I was still torn or 1 or 2 stars but the epilogue solidified 1 star. The Victor arc is still unsolved and it didn't even end with a happy scene of the main couple together though I'm glad it ended with another chance at pregnancy
I liked it well enough - the writing was engaging and the two MCs had enough chemistry I was invested in their romance story. I really liked how possessive and jealous the MMC was of the FMC. The plot about the FMC's father was quite different, didn't expect that, but it wasn't a direction I particularly liked.
Loved the story and the main couple - it was really cute. I am torn between 3 or 4 stars because I didn't quite get all of the nerdy jokes and the writing was harder to follow. The story was slower at the beginning but it all really picked up after the male lead confessed his feelings and chased the female lead in the snow. From then on the story was so good. I enjoyed the third act breakup but I do wish the arc dragged a little more. I also wish we got to see more of the main couple's happily ever after after the breakup as well. The ending felt really abrupt. Smut was also good.
This book DELIVERED. The plot twists and how unpredictable the whole direction is. Then the chemsitry between the FMC and MMC. <3
A really great book, with some plot twists and I still love the MMC. The only thing I didn't like was a miscommuncation issue that the FMC left dangling until 50% of the book when she knew it would cause an issue sooner or later. But it was resolved quite quickly. I also felt the writing wasn't as polished as the other two books. The ending was almost too convenient and concluded too easily. But I loved this series overall and a good happily ever after
