This book starts off fun and engaging but after he breaks out of jail it really slows down for me. The idea of gravity mirrors and super science gone wild is fun. This did not live up to my idea.

The book is mostly split between an “alien” point of view and a human POV. I was much more interested and entertained by the alien perspective and development. A very unique basis for a story.

The egg hunting middle portion of this book lags hard. Maybe I've fallen out of favor with the hyper references that made ready player one a fun read for the first time. But this time it just feels like too much.

The actual details of the plot and technology are what really shines here. Not the references and meta references.

DNF page 84.
It suffers from the old style of writing sci-fi where bombarding you with phrases and gobitygook and gee golly the future sure is crazy you can barely recoginize it. Not enough personality .

I loved these when I discovered them on imgur and this book was even better. You'll finish it in 30 mins.

Damn what a book. Very unique premise and very well written. Johnson really builds a world (or worlds).

The way these books are written with nesting parentheses and stuff makes it for d funny read. I could read Murderbot adventures for a long time and never get bored.

Not as good as the first zoey book but enjoyable nonetheless. It was a quick and fun read. I will read the sequels.

It was kind of dated and it was a bit difficult to keep people straight. It suffers from being very dated in how they suspect clothing and religion to become superfluous. And at some point they mention how hundreds of gigabytes is alot. That said it was a cool story. I wish they would have expanded on some aspects.

You can really feel the age of this book in the way it describes technology, genders, fashion. Also in how the story was written. Felt very much like an old twilight zone episode where in the last 5-10% every plot point is wrapped up, leaving you wanting more.

It started off a bit slow then it got vaguely insectoid-sexual and got a bit better once the plot started moving at a good pace.

The idea that another species would proactively sterilize another is pretty much the basis of The Three Body Problem series. If that interests you.

I could hear the book in Ken's voice thanks to his podcast but this book didn't really keep my interest. A lot of these are things people say but kind of know they are bunk or not. Not totally uninteresting but you have to be in the mood to read it.

I enjoyed the premise and universe implied in this sapphic story. The Garden reminds me of Hank Green's second book A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor where its explained that there is an organic computer that spans the worlds lifeforms, the Garden's space at the end reminded me of fluidic space from species 8472 from star trek voyager. The agency reminded me of the Diaspora by Greg Egan, where some humans put their consciousnesses into floating computer ships to travel the universe.
The whole plot concept reminded me of The Coincidence Makers by Yoav Blum where people subtly influence time and events.

All that to say, it 100% helps to have the framework to think about things before reading this book. Its very flowery and poem-esque. Details are light and far between. A lot of reviews talk about being confused about whats going on but enjoying the letter they write eachother. I think it helps to have experience in the concepts behind the letters in this book.

I would say 3.5 stars if good reads let me.

The red rising series is incredible. Half the time they are spouting relationships and family names I've since forgotten but I'm so interested I look them up again to refresh my memory. And im still pulled through a 600 page book in the blink of an eye. What a premise for a series, what a way with words. I could read about this universe for a long time and not get bored.

Exit strategy was very good. It out Murderbot at a semi conclusion to the events of the first book and we got to see him interact with the humans he considers friends. Very satisfying.

Much better than some previous books. But not better than the immediately previous book. There are some chapters in this that are from some randos perspective and then there are others from familiar characters that have no actual bearing on the plot. All in all its a good story.

I would actually say it's more of a sequel to the one before.

This was probably my favorite since the first book. I rather dislike the large chapters in the other books in the series that aren't involving the Roci crew. Nemesis Games was ALL them. It was more personal and I enjoyed it.

I accidentally read the third book before the second. Murderbots recollection of Art made me go back. I definitely enjoyed this one a but more. In excited to see where Murderbot goes from here.

These books are deceptively insightful and well written. You wouldn't think Hank would be that good at first and second bat until you realize a lot of the metaphors subtle and overt are directly related to things I'm sure Hank has gone through. Things we as a society are currently going through. It's crazy to realize Hank could distill the themes down to a cool sci-fi-esque story that is fun to read. Good job Hank.

I think I may have skipped a book in the series by accident. Some things were a bit confusing. I want to go back and find out what I missed. I enjoy the character but it seems like the action doesn't start until the last 3rd of the books each time.

Bobiverse lite. Not as good though.

I'm not sure if these are getting less fun to read or if I'm expecting more fast passed and energetic stories. I find it hard to read through the detailed parts of the story. My mind has already constructed the scene and I just skim through the plot beats and get to the dialog. So far to me they have been getting steadily worse. I'll take a break and come back to the rest later.

This one was good but not as good as previous 2 books. There was way too much time spent on characters that i didnt really care about. still excited to see whats next though

I have not seen the show after season 1 so this is new material for me to imagine. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Finally getting all the disparate characters together in one ship. Really great scifi.

I can't really separate my 100 hours in the game and watching the show from this reading. I really enjoyed this book. Wether it was from being able to picture the people and places and understanding the back story further than the book explains is hard to tell.
