Doctor Sleep was... good. I much preferred Dan Torrence's story in Doctor Sleep than that of Abra's and the True Knot to be perfectly honest. It was really neat to see where Dan ended up after the events of The Shining which is why I enjoyed the first half of the book much more than the second. It's definitely worth the read if you are at all a fan of The Shining but it's not an instant classic like that book. In the end, it's a Stephen King book so it's always going to be an enjoyable read but if you're not a diehard Shining fan (and if you've only ever seen the movie and not read the book) you could probably hold off on reading it.
Heavy of stories light on practical advice
I enjoyed how Mark related the ideas he was talking about to historic figures or events that have taken place. However, there wasn't much practical advice I could take hold of and use in my life. That's not to say the message wasn't received— just that there weren't many things I could draw upon if I were ever to be in a situation where I needed some advice. Good storyteller though.
Disappointing. Loved the concept and the sci-fi details of the world that was described however the plot was... blah. I was kind of confused as well where halfway through the book I realized I didn't even know what was going on – like I must've missed an important plot point at some point. Oh well.
Captivating
Every time I put this book down I kept thinking about it while going about my day. I wanted to know what was happening, I NEEDED to know what was happening.
