A book about how powerful education, and more importantly human connection in teaching, can be surrounded by a system and structure where the rights of youth in custody seem to be treated as nothing but an inconvenience. I found the beginning of the book hopeful and inspiring but it quickly became depressing and bleak. As any memoir I struggle to think of it as fully factual (and in this case for privacy etc hope it isn't) but the fact that the treatment outlined didn't even surprise me says enough about our youth justice system in Australia (not just Victoria).
A good read, but not an easy read.

A good read, I liked the interesting dynamic that the amnesia (or more the drugging) resulted in. I also enjoyed the level of science, at points, however, I disliked how some glaring problems were just addressed with "yeah we need to do that somehow" and Rocky makes it magically happen. I also wasn't really a fan of the very end but of the ending it just didn't fit with the rest of the book and the self monologue in it for me.

These are easy reads, not overly fantastic but I find myself always coming back to a Slow Horses book when I'm in a reading slump. I do find that the constant mention of how mundane their lives are a little more strange each book given events of each previous book though.
