I hated this book, start to finish. The plot was contrived, the twists were not plausible, and the whole story hinged on a completely unrealistic sudden lack of communication. Who goes from being in love to accepting not speaking for TEN YEARS based off a text message a a cursory statement from a friend of your ex? Ridiculous. Made me angry how incredibly unlikely this plot was.
I am a huge fan of the very specific genre of books about silent artists who are psychiatric patients. As a result, this plot was a delight, though tediously written.
I would agree with most people's assessments that this book was slow. It took a long time for the stories to meet up, and when they did it was certainly exciting and even fascinating, but it took so long for these stories to meet up that some of it gets lost and much of the book ends up being frustrating. I was intrigued by the actual plot, but the navigation through it felt tedious and annoying at times. Too many details in the wrong places. Could have been 200 pages shorter. But the story itself was dynamite, and I felt extremely enthralled and satisfied by the conclusion.
Also some of her writing as Andrew Marlow could be a bit cringe worthy and even creepy, particularly in the way he described young women.
Overall was good but wouldn't recommend to others. Would rather just tell them the plot than make them sit through reading it.
This book was a thrill from start to finish. I quite literally could not put it down - total page turner. I literally read it in 5 straight hours.
I adored the final twist of the story occurring in two different timelines, with the Dr being the attacker. I found the delicate way the author combined the timelines to be convincing enough that though I felt that perhaps he was the culprit, my mind couldn't justify it with the way time was progressing, resulting in me not being able to guess the ending and really being struck by it when it occurred.
This plot was so riveting I dreamed about it that night and couldn't stop thinking about it over and over for days.
This was so slow compared to the first one, and follows totally different characters. I had a really hard time getting a grip on the story.
I read this while I was extremely ill before getting a life saving surgery and it hit too close to home for me to handle at the time. Hasn't been long enough since then for me to not feel triggered reading it. It's a great book.
Enjoyed this but struggle with finishing non fiction. I like the audible version too.
Very interesting book that I think about a lot, just needed a break from non-fiction.
Love this, taking a break from non fiction so setting aside.
Really have enjoyed this, but just needed to focus on the doing and took a break.
This guys writing style feels a bit unhinged. He writes of regularly speaking to a philosopher who has been dead hundreds of years... and then of the dead philosophers response. I think it's meant to be quirky but I found it off-putting.
It's just the same thing over and over. I got about halfway through and just couldn't imagine spending the time necessary to finish just to get the same idea again and again. I like the message itself and did recommend to others.
This is a great book, I just chose to spend my 4,000 weeks elsewhere.
This story is pretty slow and I just found myself dreading picking it up every time I went to read. Just couldn't get through. It's an interesting enough story just very slow.
Read this because of how much I enjoyed the show. Is not like the show and is not well written. Couldn't get through it.
I've tried to read this about 4 times because I enjoyed the show so much but cannot get behind the authors writing style. Story just wouldn't grip me.
This book is.. bizarre. Love the musical, could not get through this. It jumps all over the place and the story itself is really weird.
This is something I started reading early in my career and just sort of left on my desk to peruse over time. I'm now 4+ years in and just do not need what's in here as much as I did then.
I burned myself out on this series. I will comeback to it but no point leaving it on my currently reading when I'm not
