i haven’t read horror, this book is my introduction to the genere. i’m glad i picked up this book. it’s very detailed and gruesome so not for the faint of heart, but a solid read. such good parallels to our real life. ending caught me off guard; i had read the MC completely wrong.

This book is a great contemporary read about the struggles of what it takes to be “American.” Arce does a great job of showcasing her struggles of self-acceptance and her journey to reaching and rejecting becoming “enough” for her white counterparts. I learned so much for Arce, and I appreciate her efforts in cementing our unknown history.
