What a change of feelings from last year. I feel worse after reading this than I did after the cliffhanger in the first one. 3 stars only because of John since his part in the book was the only part I enjoyed. How sad is that...? PETER WHY.

I'M REALLY REALLY REALLY HOPING THERE WON'T BE A LOVE TRIANGLE IN THIS. I don't think I can bear to see Lara Jean and Peter go through much more after they've come this far. I'm scared to see what direction this will take... I'm ever so happy that it's only going to be a duology though!!
2 stars to the story, 4 stars to the audio book narration.
I just couldn't get into the story and nothing really happened? Everything seemed long and dragged out and although it did pick up a bit close to the end, I was still bored all the way through. The world is quite interesting though so I'm conflicted over whether or not to continue the series.
Wow. Just WOW. I enjoyed this way more than I anticipated. I was hooked from the very start. The audiobook probably played a huge role in that as it made the super technical parts really easy to get through and I didn't find them boring at all. Bray does a phenomenal job with Watney's voice, but I found the voices for the other characters a bit strange. They were bearable though and I got used to them after a while. The last 20 minutes or so of the book had my heart racing and I totally cried at the end. Definitely a thrill ride.
The story was engaging throughout, but I can see why it might not appeal to some people. I really recommend the audiobook version! I ended up reading some parts in print, but much preferred the audio.
This was a boring read which is disappointing because the world is quite interesting, but it's not fleshed out enough and some parts are a bit confusing because of this. Some of the magical elements are unique and that was mostly what kept me reading. I thought about DNF-ing the book many times, but since it was so short I decided to read to the end and I feel like I still haven't gained anything from it. I felt no connections to the characters or their problems and didn't care for the ending.
All in all, I would say maybe read it for the magic system but don't expect much more.
I feel like I wasted time reading this because I didn't feel anything for the characters at all. The story was pure instalove in the worst way possible and I found myself rolling my eyes at most of the events in this book. The scene with the other characters was a highlight, but even that wasn't enough to redeem this book for me.
Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this story, but I really didn't enjoy it.
