I'm fully in!
As stated in part one review, I have read this book before but cannot remember quite being invested in it enough to leave a respectable review - therefore I have it 5* as I just presumed that was the right thing to do.
Now I've read it fully. Now I've invested over a week into this absolute epic and I'd say this is now in my top books of all time. It tells many stories, offers up such a phenomenal and interesting world and fully grips you in with an unknown history, interesting questions, fascinating theories, deep characters and that feeling of really having lived through these characters' lives. First time round I didn't really get the hype. Second time round, I am all aboard the hype train!
This is a fantastic dinosaur-based sci-fi book. Never before have I read a book with so much scientific detail where I felt like I was reading a non-fiction alongside a fiction. Now I understand there's famously some false information in here. However, some of the truly scientific things about chaos theory, the evolution of dinosaurs, possible behaviours of dinosaurs and how they may have tended to their young and so much more made this feel like a truly educative read.
It's not really like the film at all. The general idea is the same - Island of dinosaurs, people (all names the same) go to test it out and then havoc ensues. However, the storyline is vastly estranged and the characters are uniquely different creating what feels like a 4th Jurassic Park film (excluding JW and JW:FK as they are a new franchise). I highly recommend for anyone wanting a good, fun, educational and enjoyable piece of dinosaur fiction
5 star because it had everything
This book had absolutely everything.
Characters you genuinely cared about to a point where you care so much you struggle to read on at points! Some lovely and caring, others horrible and inconceivably cruel, all flawed and, as a result, very believable!
A storyline you constantly want to read the next chapter of to see where it is taking you, hoping what you thought was going to happen happens and then ether satisfyingly does or also satisfyingly takes a brilliant twist.
It's a book I feel the author could have kept on writing and I would have kept on reading. But I'm glad there's a sequel (and another book coming soon) as it allows me to break it up and get myself ready for the next installment as there's a lot of unanswered questions and little holes I want them to explore more!
Wow... Just wow.
I wrote the review for the first book in the series about a week ago and said it was one of my favourite fantasies of all time. This has equalled it, if not topped. Though I've not come out feeling quite as blown away as the first, it's a truly enticing read with every chapter delivering unparalleled drama, new twists and intrigue that make you want to just keep on reading.
I jumped straight from the first book to this, however, I'm going to take a break between this and third as I don't want to burn out the series. But I am so very looking forward to reading it!!
Packed to the brim with brilliance
This book has to be one of my favourite of all time. Everyone has heard of terms such as “unputdwonable” or “page-turner”. This truly was both of those. I couldn't out this book down.. the point where I made myself late for multiple appointments.
If you're looking for a very interesting fantasy story that's easy to read but well written, FILLED with plot-twists, involves slight romance, evil people and more... Look no further. This has it all. It also sets up some interesting questions for the sequel. Which I'm now buying!
Another fantastic sci-fi epic
The second book in a series is always the decider as to whether you're going to carry on with it. The first book introduces you to the characters and where things are headed and the second book has to not only introduce new intriguing characters for you to love, but also continue on the story with an interesting plot that further envelops you in the world you spent a whole book falling in love with. This book does that. I love the characters more. New great characters have been introduced and the interesting story that emerged in the first book has continued and got even more interesting for the third!
Johnson Miltom continues to get more and more interesting as the series goes on. A man who's just wandering and falls into trouble out of the pure kindness and stubbornness of his heart. This one features a decent set of characters with a villain who's final reasoning for his crimes are completely understandable. I feel as every book goes on, we find out a little more about Milton as I feel he slowly begins to open up having been away from the organisation! Great read but if you're 3 books in, you're likely already a fan!

Not quite sure why it's got SUCH a high rating, but it is a decent book. I liked it because I'm a nerd who liked Pokémon and RPGs when growing up...and still do. This book caters to that very much. I didn't like this book because it felt a little rushed. There could easily have been another 200-300 pages. However, there are more books in the series which makes this much better. I did really enjoy the book and sometimes after the first book I'm not fussed about reading the second, but I'm very interested to carry on the series... especially after the ending!
A truly fantastic fantasy book with a unique setting. Featuring an immersive world, believable characters and wonderously imaginative concepts, this is one of the best fantasy books I've read in a while. On top of these aforementioned positives, it features plenty of tense moments, cool action scenes and twists and turns for days! Definitely recommend for all!
Brilliant premise for a book. Starts off really exciting and break-neck. Unfortunately it suffers from a little waffle throughout the book that may make you lose attention.
However, as with any first book in a series, it makes you instantly want to start the next. I really enjoyed the combination of sci-fi and raw surival. Two elements rarely combined and done this well!
The world created was believable and immserive too. Always can appreciate a world that's believable yet easily understandable!
Definitely worth a read for any fans of Hunger Games or anyone looking for a really good sci-fi series to begin (based on reviews of the future books)
Ruddy fantastic bit of sci fi
This book was absolutely fantastic. When describing it to friends and family, I kept exercising how every chapter had to shocked and amazed, how every chapter blew your mind and made you think outside he box. The story isn't mind-blowing, but the ideas and application are truly unputdownable! If you like superhero, sci-fi, existential stories or just a fascinating read, definitely give this book a read!
I'm a harsh critic as a book reviewer as, being a huge movie fan, I often find it hard to be immersed in a book the same way I am a really good film. This book was a great action book, Jack Reacher gets a lot done with very little effort and, as with both Lee Child books I've read so far, there are always plenty of little twists to keep you going. Alongside these twists you learn a lot about weapons, tactics, how to be a spy and a lot of other really fascinating tips that Reacher has learned over the years that you really hope ring true. Solid book, solid storyline and will definitely continue this series, I'm just difficult to sell to!
One of the best sci-fi books I've read. The world is a a truly believable, immersive futuristic landscape and theory. The characters are deep, developed, loable, dislikeable but all intriguing. The story could have been so simple but tells so many deeper stories within it making you think about things you really wouldn't think the book would make you think about! I would highly recommend this to fans of sci-fi, fans of books with adventure journeys, fans of books on governmental regimes, fans of books about MMOs, fans of books about romances. It's become an instant classic for me and has made me very excited to watch the film!
Best fantasy book I've read
I absolutely adore films/tv shows/books that show the journey of a character who has an incredible life that changes and goes off on so many tangents. This book isn't the quickest read and isn't hugely filled with action but it truly takes you on a journey. You need to finish this book, don't give up - trust me, it is wholly worth it. So far this is the best fantasy book I've ever read!
A good action book. Written brilliantly with short enough chapters to be able to fit it in to your every day life. The introduction to Mitch Rapp welcomes you to a hard character with obvious motives to his rawness and yet someone who, despite his own natural abilities, is still young and is always learning. Good book, not the best I've read, nothing outstanding about it either.
A good storyline with a fair few twists in it that kept me reading on. Most people claim to be able to guess how books are going to end, but there were genuinely a couple of moments in this story where I had to re-read a line because I couldn't believe it. The book does waffle a little bit and there's no real character progression of any sort however. But a solid storyline and clever writing makes this a good read!
A really quite brilliant book. The last 200-250 pages are absolutely incredible as more plot twists unfold and the action ramps up. Imagine Jack Reacher as James Bond but with less tech and not working for anybody but himself. Fantastic read. Arguably the best action story I've read so far. On to the remaining 20-odd Reacher books 👌🏼
Just lost interest. Written in such a convoluted manner and I never really got a hang of what was happening.
