I'm blown away, for real.
I finished this book in a day and it cured my reading slump. Also, it surprised the hell out of me. I genuinely didn't think that thrillers could surprise me anymore, but The Silent Patient proved me wrong.
Even if we don't talk about the plot twist, the book was beautifully written. I was genuinely attached to the characters and felt their pain (which is very weird thing to say about a thriller).
Anyway, read this book, please!
3.5
I really liked the last 30% of the book, but overall I'm a little bit disappointed.
I won't remember these characters for years to come, which is a shame. And the saddest part is that I don't know why. Is there some problem with me or with the book? Am I just not in the mood for romance? Who knows? All I know is that I desperately wanted to love it but for some reason I just liked it.
Also, Theo not saying he may be bi or pan or queer was not cute...
There was almost nothing feminist about this book, considering that the main character was described as strong and independent and was hazed by men
I mean, every other woman except Joey was described as “a walking sex-invite” and “trying to be sexy”. By one of the main characters! I just can't, its too much.
I actually liked this book a lot, some of the sex scenes were on point and very hot.
But at the same time, the story was nonexistent because of these scenes. There was just so many of them, there was almost no time to develop the characters.
Also sometimes I cringed a little while reading some stuff the mc said. Dirty talk is good, but sometimes it was just too much. I mean... “To pin her down, plow himself deep, and pump like a nasty dog”. Who even thinks that? And Sarge was a little bit too dominant, even though he was a very nice person. I like my men in romance to be dirty talkers but soft at the same time.
The ending was sweet, even too sweet for my taste, but it's fine tbh. I'm looking forward to continuing the series!
I loved some of the stories and others I didn't like that much. However it is a really good story collection. My favourite stories are definitely “The Tower Princesses” and “The Man in the Ambry”. I also really enjoyed reading “By Now, I'll Probably Be Gone”, “The Lazarus Bride” “The Five-day Summer Camp”, “Audrey At Night”, “Skin Like Honey and Lace” and “The Clawfoot Requiem”. I appreciate the authors ability to create such unique and unusual stories.
At first I didn't like this book at all. But then came the second part, and... AH, I LOVED IT SO FREAKING MUCH. It was difficult for me to imagine this relationship work in the beginning, but it somehow worked for me. Naomi and Nicholas went through so much growth as characters, and I'm so proud of my babies.
