This book had me in its tightening grip for dang near the whole ride. But dammit he lost me in those last 5 pages!! The Andromeda Evolution had best have some dang answers, and frankly I have this fear that Andromeda Evolution is going to be lacking in all the things I loved about Strain, mainly the science. So damn, yes I feel gypped by the impromptu ending, but damn I also loved every other page...

I would like to thank @NetGalley for the opportunity to read Magic Lesson by Alice Hoffman. Unfortunately I was only able to make it through half of the book due to unfortunate circumstances. I would like to say that I have ordered myself a copy and plan to finish and will update my review accordingly.

About the book: I very much enjoyed learning the origins of Maria Owens, we hear a lot about her from “Practical Magic”. In “Magic Lessons” we follow her story from her birth and youth under the tutelage of Hannah Owens, and as a bright youth learning and even potentially exceeding the skills of her birth mother, and beyond to North America. Ms. Hoffman writes an immersive experience, being set in the mid-1600s, the story takes what we know of witches of the era and brings it down to a personal level. I would highly recommend this to fans of “Practical Magic”.

Give it a shot. It's worthy.

this is a very messed up story..... couldn't keep my attention

I am aghast that I have to wait till September to finish this read. I hadn't realized when I placed the request with NetGalley that it was for the first 25% of the book! OOOOOOOO but that 25% was damn near perfection! I was completely surprised at just how INTO this book I was (am). It has everything I look for in a SciFi book, intrigue, humanity, internal struggle, realism. I couldn't put it down, and when my kindle hit 100% and I realized the story was nowhere near over I was mortified, as a matter of fact, I'm still shook!

So anyway, if you like books with a reluctant heroine forced into tough situations that has a heart of gold, if you like your Scifi with epic journeys through the stars and distant inhabitable planets, and if you like your journey to include sentient armor and an advanced race of squid-like aliens trying to steal it... Well then you've met your match.
