4.5 rounding up for goodreads
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me an e-ARC of this book for me to review.
With a title like “Daddy Issues” I felt like this book had biggggg shoes to fill. I think this book is exactly what you think it will be, I loved every second of it. As someone who was also drifting and lost in their early 20's, I related to the FMC on such a deep level. So many of the thoughts she had in this book are very similar to the ones that I've had as someone who had huge intentions of going to grad school but had to pivot. I am also a single woman, navigating meeting men and at my old age of 33, most of them are divorced with kids. I struggle with a lot of the same insecurities and I just really felt seen reading this book.
I really loved the MMC too, but there were definitely some parts of him that felt unrealistic and that pulled me out of the story the author was trying to weave. Overall though, he was such and interesting character I just wish we got some more background on him like we did for the FMC.
Morí the man that you are! If you were obsessed with Bunny and Bones, you're going to be even more obsessed Cameron and Emery! I ate this book up, I literally couldn't put it down after I started reading.
I loved Emery's personality and her overall aesthetic. She was such a badass, and the fact that she had pink hair made it that much better. I would have loved some more background on her and the history she had with her father as his assassin, and I hope we get to cover more of that in book 2.
Cameron's backstory was fantastic, I loved seeing some of his flashbacks. I really loved his development throughout the book, but the ending was my favorite part. I love when the troubled characters have their moment and puzzle pieces start falling into place. I cannot wait for the next book in this duet, I will be impatiently waiting. .
This novella was everything I wanted it to be! I loved Mateo the moment we met him, and I am so glad we got to follow a bit of his journey into his self discovery and his new relationship with his half sister, Ashlynn. My younger brother is my best friend and I am fiercely protective of him, so I really connected to this story. The found family trope is one of my all time favorite tropes, and the Overbear team in the Drop-In series is one of my favorites to read about.
I also loved meeting Mera! I just knew Mateo was going to be a lover boy, he deserves the world and Mera is perfect for him :) They are so incredibly cute together, and in the words of Anthony Ville.... “Ahhhh to be young again” ;)
Voidwalker will easily be one of my favorite reads for 2025. I am already a monster romance girlie, so I knew I needed to get my hands on this one. Voidwalker has a very detailed, fleshed out fantasy world so it's perfect for Romantasy readers who are wanting to dip their toe into monster romance. This is such a perfect place to start, and this will be one of the books I recommend in this genre moving forward
Thank you to the publisher for giving me a copy of this book to review.
Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I love pirate fantasy/romantasy but I couldn't connect to the characters. The writing itself was phenomenal, but I do think the pacing was a little off. I do think that my lack of enjoyment is mostly my fault, so I didn't want to rate the book on goodreads to bring the star rating down because that didn't feel fair.
There will be so many people that will love this book, I just wasn't one of them.
Thank you @ash_ryan_author and @theauthor.agency for sending me the ARC for Tailspin!
First off, the whole series so far is fantastic! My favorite thing about the Drop-In series is that we're following extreme sports. I love a good sports romance, but I do think the unique sports aspect is super unique!
In Tailspin we're following Olympic snowboarder Cora and her new manager, Chase. Cora has been going through it with her abusive ex, and my heart was breaking for her. Chase was so patient and kind and I loved how Cora literally bloomed under the love and support she was learning to receive. She was such a relatable character, and overall a super inspiring character to read about.
If this series is not on your radar, you must add it to your TBR and give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. I cannot wait to continue with some skateboarders in book 3.
First off- Thank you to NetGalley and the author for letting me to review the audiobook for A Cursed Son that comes out tomorrow!
Unfortunately, this book was not for me, but that's OK! I think the fantasy world building is very accessible, and wide ranges of people can enjoy it, even if fantasy is not their main genre. I would recommend this book to readers who read a lot of romance, but may be new to fantasy. This book had some of my favorite tropes, like hidden identity, fated mates and court intrigue. If you decide to pick this book up, i recommend reading it via audiobook, the voice actor did a great job narrating!
This book had such a great premise, but unfortunately I think it fell a bit short on delivery. I really liked the “stand in for the princess” plot line, and I wish we learned more about that part of it. Astra, the FMC, was a bit frustrating to read because she didn't see her narcissistic father figure taking advantage of her for the sake of secrecy (maybe i just have daddy issues?? lol) The book started out strong, where she was really trying to take back her power in any way that she could, but I think by the end of the book, Astra felt a little out of character based on how she was described at the beginning. Astra is a strong female character who is highly educated and highly trained so she could take care of herself (until it came to the Prince and the need for deep self reflection). Prince Malark, the MMC, was probably my favorite character. He really through Astra for a loop and had her questioning everything. He had the mysterious factor going on and I did find myself wanting to know more about his background and his history with his family and fae powers.
This book was absolutely insane and I loved every second of it. It really jumps right into the action and the story, the book is very fast paced which really works for the whole surreal style of storytelling. I highly recommend trigger warnings...If you are a fan of graphic and gruesome sci-fi horror, body horror, or splatterpunk, then this book may be one to check out. The language is very strong and controversial, which is the main reason why I am giving it 4 stars and not 5. I do think that it added to the story and really fit the characters, but it could be a shock still for people who may not expect it.
You're following Jennifer, a drug addict and drug trafficker who is possessed by a goddess who calls herself The Divine Flesh. Jennifer and the Divine Flesh are both obsessed with their husband, Darryl, and the outlandish plot starts to unfold when they agree to meet back up with Daryl at the beginning of the book. You WILL hate some of the characters, and still root for them. Everything was just so intentionally over the top, that I could not look away.
The cover is also absolutely fantastic, and that's what drew me to the arc. Thank you NetGalley and Drew Huff for giving me the opportunity to review The Divine Flesh!
4.5/5 Stars!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sending me this ARC :)
This book gave me everything that I wanted it to. I LOVE books about cults, especially when they deal with religious trauma, so this book was right up my alley from the start. I loved her debut novel, the writing retreat, and I was a little worried going into this one because this one is also in a retreat like setting. The vibes were very different, and I quickly forgot about that worry I had going in.
This book was terrifying to me, watching some of the characters in this book get sucked into the web of the cult leaders Moon and Sol (I hate the names tbh) was hard to read at times.... but that was the point of it. I did struggle a bit with the pacing, but it did not really take away from my enjoyment of the book.
Thank you to Cora Kent and her team for letting me read this ARC! I binged the novellas and book 1 before diving into this one and while I wouldn't say it's 100% necessary, I am glad I did! The world she's building between the too families, the Terlizzis and the Castigliones, is so good! I love a good character driven story, especially when there's an antihero involved. I absolutely hated Saverio while loving him at the same time. Not to mention some of my favorite tropes... but check your trigger warnings before jumping in
Shout out to hellbound for sending this over! I started this on Halloween and it was the perfect read. If you love a good slasher, please pick this one up, it won't disappoint!
Ted's Score was full of heavy topics on top of the gore so please check your trigger warnings. I love a book that is just a disaster spiral from beginning to end so the ending was everything I wanted it to be
