This book was my first dip into MMF and after reading this book and that changed my reading preferences permanently lol. Sierra Simone writes the absolute hottest spicy scenes. Mark and Tristan had me in a chokehold, I LOVED watching their relationship unfold. I was SWEATING when Isolde officially entered the picture, because i don't love overly messy or dramatic love triangles but I loved being in Tristan's head while he mentally deals with his emotions about Isolde and her addition into the relationship he had developed with Mark.
I cannot wait to continue the series :)
I was provided an eArc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Changing this from 4 to 5 stars because I honestly haven't stopped thinking about this book since I read it. Everything about this book was well thought out and there are certain things I keep coming back to which make mg initial confusion less confusing.
I absolutely loved this book it sucked me in right away. The narration with the main character really worked well. The story really took its time setting the scene and building up the world we were in and none of it was boring. The premise of the book and the idea of being sleepless really amped up the intrigue of this book. The writing in this book really fleshed out the pandemic in a way that it feels realistic, possible even as a future reality.
I also enjoyed the reveals and twists in this book, not all of them surprising but they all worked well together to build a cohesive plot and a conclusive ending. If anything, it made me enjoy the book more to be able to say “I knew it!”
It was quite hard to follow all the characters, there are a lot of detailed ones and the author writes them well. I say this is leaning more into a character driven plot which is typically the style I enjoy. There were definitely times where logistics of it all kinda pulled me out of the world a bit which is why I'm rating 4 out of 5 stars.
Overall, I can't wait to get my hands on a finished copy of this book. The cover is great as well as the chapter break images. I can't wait to see more from this author!
2.5 but I'm rounding it up to 3 because I loved everything about this book up until the last 50 or so pages. I hated the ended.... And not because I didn't agree with how it ended because I saw this ending half way through the book and was ok with it. It was so rushed. It was such a good build and I was hooked into the plot... the ending did not do the book Justice.
I got this book as a gift after mentioning I'd like to read more from the author of Gone Girl. I really liked the concept of the story line and it really did keep me turning pages, but I don't feel like it had the “WoW” factor that I was kind of expecting. The ending was great and it definitely went somewhere I wasn't expecting that kept me thinking about it for days afterwards. I can usually pick up another book to start reading within a few days of finishing one, but this one made me reflect longer than usually. This book is definitely worth a read, but if you have already read Gone Girl (I mean who hasn't?) try not to constantly compare the books in your head (like me).
I really loved Virals and I am sorry to say that this sequel didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was really missing some of the sci-fi mystique the first book had and it was more heavy on the historical fiction. I happen to really love pirates, especially female pirates, so I feel like I am less disappointed than some of the other reviewers. However, I hope the next books include more of the “technological advancement” themes As a lover of all things anthropology and archaeology, I will probably continue reading the series and everything else Kathy Reichs writes because she's awesome. I have high hopes for the next installment in the series that I should be starting shortly!
Totally drags you into a new and exciting world without losing sight of reality. The main character, Karou is super fun and relatable. All of the supporting characters have different personalities that come together in a good way. This book will give you so many emotions without making you feel overloaded! I loved it.
I have never read any of her books before and I have always wanted to read her temperance brennan series. I picked up this book at a discount to give it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised. I could not put down this book. It was so interesting and very well written. I cannot wait to pick up the second book. The characters are all so different, the group of friends is an odd mix but it works! Some people hate when science is mixed with fiction but for me it made me even more interested in the book.
