This story is the ultimate soul-warming comfort read. It follows a single mom returning home to navigate family life, only to find a grumpy boss who, despite his own drama, falls head over heels for both her and her son. It’s a simple, heartfelt, and incredibly cute romance that feels like a warm hug.
I have mixed feelings about this one. After being introduced to these characters in the first book, I was incredibly excited to dive into their backstory, but the payoff didn't quite live up to the hype. To be clear, the writing itself is excellent; it’s more that my own high expectations made the story feel a bit underwhelming.
While the plot was interesting, the "big scary" elements like Fable felt anticlimactic, and the history between the leads wasn't as devastating as I had braced for. The side plot involving unrequited love from a non-main character felt unnecessary, and while the hero maintained his dark, poetic edge, the execution of the ending felt a bit sloppy. I really wanted to love this, but my personal build-up made the reality fall a little short.
Unexpectedly Hooked! 📖✨
I’ll admit, I was a bit apprehensive about this one at first. It didn't sound like my usual "cup of tea," but I am so glad I gave it a chance!
What to expect:
Tropes: Double unrequited love (the "he fell first AND she fell first" vibes).
Vibe: Not super dark, but deeply emotional and sweet.
This has an unique past and present dual timeline that kept me flipping pages to see how their journey unfolded.
Seeing these two realize they’ve been pining for each other all along was everything. If you’re looking for a heartfelt story about timing and second chances, put this on your TBR!
She is a hyper-independent girl making her own path, while he is the guy who finally finds someone to put his needs first. The miscommunication trope at the start offered a great spin, with both thinking the other didn't like them. While his father seemed frustratingly incompetent, her 'out there' mum and the rest of the amusing side characters have me looking forward to the rest of the series.
A story about acceptance, not a rescue mission. 🥀 I loved that His Juliet celebrates two beautifully flawed leads who don't try to 'fix' one another. He didn't save her—he simply saw her strength and accepted her exactly as she is, including her agoraphobia, even while battling his own internal demons. No 'perfect' characters here, just raw devotion and a killer twist. 🖤✨
Finally, a heroine who saves herself! This wasn't your typical "damsel in distress" story. Watching her strength and resilience as she survived every "WTF" moment was incredible—she’s a total powerhouse supported for the first time in her life by a guy who fell in love with every part of her.
It’s a longer read, but I would’ve loved a bit more of the Happily Ever After. The story was a gripping, unconventional ride that I really enjoyed.
This one was a DNF-energy read... 🥱
I wanted to love the battle-damaged hero and the girl seeking a fresh start, but the plot just circled the same drain. It started strong and then flatlined. I actually forced myself to finish it—though I’m still not sure why— maybe part of me was hopeful for a stellar ending but unfortunately that was not the case
The Mercy of Demons by Candice Wright was a bit of a letdown compared to the rest of the series. While I thought Mercy’s story was great, her backstory felt underdeveloped, and I’m still confused about how she even knew King.
The "psycho" vibe started strong but unfortunately fizzled out, and the other two male leads felt like unnecessary add-ons who didn't serve much of a purpose. The amnesia plot had massive potential but felt thin, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions. Overall, it felt like an anticlimactic "throw everything at the wall" approach that didn't quite stick.
I’m usually a fast-burn girl, but the buildup in this one actually worked for me. I really liked how their relationship grew before they even met, even though we had to wait until the 90% mark for a single kiss!
However, after such a long book, the ending really pissed me off. I felt like, "What the hell, dude?" I invested so much time into this story only for it to just stop. I felt robbed because there were so many unanswered questions about Ruby's business and their future. It was just annoying to miss out on their actual life together.
This one was a heavy, confronting read—definitely check your triggers before diving in. It’s a bit different from my usual favorites, but so interesting.
I loved the take on the FMC. She starts off appearing "soft," but she’s actually anything but. Plus, the author keeps dropping so many unanswered questions! Usually, that might be a pain, but here it just makes me want to grab the next book even faster to see how it all connects.
The Reign of Kings, anchored by the fabulous Reign is a fantastic read. I loved everything about her and the bond between her and her brothers is a definite highlight. Bates stole the show as my favorite character. There is something incredibly addictive about a dangerous psychopath who only finds his calm with one specific person. Their chemistry and the overall "found family" energy made this a five-star read for me.
What I loved most was the incredible strength of the female lead. While the guys are total possessive alphas, the women in this series are absolute powerhouses who hold their own every step of the way. The balance of fierce independence and electric chemistry made this an addictive, standout read. If you want a dark romance where the heroine is just as tough as the hero, you need to start this series now.
I’m giving this one 4 stars! It was such a highlight to see this relationship finally grow after watching them in the first book. While some of the earlier dynamics felt a bit intense, it’s clear that he was just for her. Every action he took showed that she was finally "truly wanted" and had found a deep sense of belonging. The only downside was that the ending felt a bit rushed for the HEA I was craving, but overall, a great read.
I’ll admit—this book threw me for a loop at first! Based on the start, I actually thought I might have misunderstood the blurb. It felt almost like a sweet, entertaining rom-com, and I was totally settling in for that vibe... and then the plot started swinging.
The shift was incredible. Luna is an absolute queen, and seeing her 'badass' side come out was everything I didn't know I needed. The side characters are just as engaging, and the twists and turns kept me hooked until the very last page.
If you love a heroine who is way more than she seems and a 'found family' dynamic that actually feels real, read this book. I am officially obsessed and cannot wait to devour the rest of this series
This was an incredibly heavy, intense read that had me saying "oh my god" out loud several times. I absolutely loved the "touch her and die" energy and watching the hero completely soften for her. Check the trigger warnings first, as it deals with very dark themes, but it’s a must-read for fans of protective alphas. I can't wait for the next one!
I’ve been waiting for Brent’s story since the Brutal Obsession duet, and it was a solid, intense read. I’m still processing some of the "messier" execution, but the character dynamics really hooked me.
I loved that he’s a nightmare to the world but completely different with the heroine.
The fact that he fell for her immediately made his devotion unquestionable. He’s the type of hero who will literally ruin himself to give her what he thinks she needs.
It’s a complicated, memorable story with a protective alpha who is only soft for one person.
Oscar by BJ Alpha is a definite step up from the first two books in the series. I appreciated seeing him develop strategies for his different traits and found the father’s redemption arc surprisingly engaging. While the pacing at the end felt a bit rushed and it isn’t my absolute favorite of the series, it’s a solid read that lived up to the persona established in his earlier cameos.
I usually love an "alpha-hole" story, but this hero was just a nasty, mean-spirited person with zero redeeming qualities. There was nothing entertaining about his character; he was just plain cruel. It’s baffling how any person could think his behavior was forgivable, and watching the heroine just accept it made me wonder what on earth she was thinking. I only finished this to keep up with the other brothers’ stories, but this dynamic was impossible to root for.
This is easily the best installment in the series so far. Finn is a total arsehole, but he’s exactly the right kind—his intensity never feels mean-spirited, just completely obsessed and possessive. From the moment he finds her, his world revolves entirely around her. If you love a hero who is unapologetically all about his woman, this is it
This is not a light read, but it is an unforgettable one. It dives deep into the harsh realities and trauma bonding of characters who have been through the absolute ringer. The grit is palpable, making the high-heat chemistry feel even more explosive and earned.
Be warned: it ends on a massive cliffhanger, so you’ll be reaching for the second half of the duet immediately. If you love dark, spicy romance that pulls no punches, add this to your TBR.
I really enjoyed the story and the intense, heavy spice—it definitely delivered on the heat! It was satisfying to see the cliffhangers from the last book tied up, though it ended with even more unanswered questions. My only gripe is that I would have preferred Jace to be a little nicer, but overall, it was a great read.
Finally getting inside Luca’s head changed everything. This POV retelling provides the essential context missing from the first book, revealing the duty and calculated logic behind his coldness.
It’s fascinating to see that his initial lack of interest wasn't about her—it was about the crown. A must-read for anyone who wanted to see the man beneath the "Capo" persona.
