OH BOY OHOOOOOH heart eyes
here are some incoherent notes:
character motivation is stellar
characters over plot
the magic element and desc is exquisite
Alucard Emery would be besties with Nikolai Lantsov and I demand a crossover
Kell Maresh and Rhys's bond >>>>>>>>>>>
the casual lgbt+ rep, we love to see it
Kell is my child and the newest addition to the comfort character gang.

let it be known that V.E Schwab manages to wreck me and render me speechless every time, I don't know how she does it, and I don't know what to say when I review her books because of her aforementioned power, this was a major leap of faith for her because her forte is usually grand schemes, epic worldbuilding and all that, so to make a seemingly simple book was a great risk but DEAR GOD WAS IT GOOD, I've waited so long to get the physical copy and I'm so glad I own this pretty book.
overall, it kept the charm of her writing style that I adore; although it took a while for the book to pick up the pace it was incredibly rewarding at the end. Finishing the book knowing that it's a standalone felt like saying goodbye to a dear friend ( idk how to cope with leaving characters that I love behind this is a cry for help)

yall can't tell me the premise of this book isn't one of the most interesting premises even woven, it's star crossed lovers turned exes then lovers again through a series of clusterfucks of events, the sweet protagonist that is Juliette Cai is everything i want in a protagonist. My god this was BEAUTIFUL.
P.S: this is one of the most hyped-up books I've seen in my life!!
Leigh said here's a bunch of misfits, nearly impossible high-stakes heist, EXCELLENT enemies to lovers, and wonderfully built characters and I respect it, although it doesn't come near the Grisha verse books, it's a pretty good divergence from Alina's story. the diversity in this book is noteworthy and well crafted.
“Everyone needs something to believe in.”
This book started out as funny and light then turned a little too personal when i least expected it, depiction of fandom and celebrities is stellar, muslim representation is wholesome and lowkey, and anxiety (mental illnesses )is portrayed just right. “I was born for this” is a beautiful book.

I will never recover.
edit: after finishing the series last night, it's safe to say that this is a great trilogy, maybe one of the finest fantasy books I've read up to this day.
let's break this bad boy down, you got:
a great anti-hero
an even greater protagonist
character DEPTH plus character motivation
gripping plot and action
found family trope.
Russian folklore references
overall, I'm so glad I picked up this series even though the ending was questionable, excited for the six of crows mess.
