Oh. My. God.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!
It's so action-packed and funny and well-written! Our main character Tella is awesome - she's sarcastic and honest and the way she's written makes her feel so real. Even minor characters in this book feel very real. I developed emotions for all them, good and bad. A couple characters I found myself truly hating, to the point where I would shout at my book for something bad to happen to them. And others I just instinctively liked. Plot twists? Yes. Several!
I know the plot of this might sound a lot like The Hunger Games, but trust me, this story is completely different. Please, please, please give it a read!
This book started off really great and interesting, and then it sort of... got a bit boring? It wasn't a bad book at all, and the story was cool, but there were quite a few slow portions that made it hard to pay attention. What I liked most was learning about the world, which is very different from our own. I think I will read the sequel, but it probably won't happen for a while.
This book was so entertaining! I wouldn't say it scared me, but it definitely made me laugh with all the IKEA bashing cleverly concealed in the story & even Doctor Who mentions (always wins me over). I definitely gained a few confused glances as I sat reading this book (which looks like an IKEA catalogue) at the airport in New York, chuckling to myself and shouting “Doctor Who reference” to my sister.
The ending was really cool, I liked it.
I loved the premise of this book so much that for weeks I've been dreaming about buying this book, however in my dreams I always managed to lose the book before reading it, so you can imagine how excited I was to have this book in my hands and opening the front cover and finally reading it.
I really enjoyed this story. It's quite different from the fantasy books I've been reading lately and the characters were very special. I loved reading about Kell and Lila, but my favourite character ended up being Rhy. Not even sure why, I just really like him.
Learning about the four different Londons was so cool and I wish I could travel to Red London! I want to live there forever and ever!
This book was so heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I read this after my friend Lauren on Twitter recommended it to me months ago, and I don't regret it.
I know some people disagree with the ending, but I thought it was perfect and the only way to end the book. Yeah, it was sad, but I think it was the best outcome for both Lou and Will.
And WOW AM I EXCITED FOR THE MOVIE ADAPTATION. Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, JENNA COLEMAN (my bby) and Matt Lewis? YES PLEASE.
** 4.5 stars **
Probably the only one to say this, but... This was my least favourite of the series so far! But as you can see from my rating, I still really enjoyed it!
The positives:
- Daemon & Katy's relationship swoon
- THE ENDING!!!!!
- Dawson & Beth
- Matthew's betrayal was so unexpected- Beth's pregnancy, I saw it coming from a looong way, but I still loved it!
The negatives:
- The dual perspective... It was cool to see the world from Daemon's POV, but I prefer just reading from Katy's POV at this point
- Blake's death just seemed to rushed and it felt like it was there just to get rid of him- The marriage? I get they love each other, but that happened way too fast for me
Bring on Opposition!
Finally got around to reading this book and I really enjoyed it. The different fonts/text colour made it easy to remember whose POV I was reading, so that was great. I felt like June and Day were a bit too mature for their age, I know they're prodigies and super smart, but even so they felt like 18-year-olds instead of 15-year-olds. Not too much happened in terms of story progression, but I'm sure the next book moves the plot further than Legend did. I will definitely read the sequels.
It's been a while since I've read a fantasy book set at a boarding school, and I realised I've missed it a lot. Blythewood did remind me of Harry Potter in so many ways, but I never once felt like it was the same story. Carol Goodman has created her own world with her own magic, inspired by traditional fairytales and Norse mythology.
I loved that the book was set in the early 20th century and I think the author did a good job at describing life back then. Our main protagonist, Ava, was a good narrator, but my favourite character was Sarah....
I definitely wasn't expecting Sarah to be the spy!!! That broke my heart, I loved Sarah! She was so kind to Ava! Oh, and the Titanic reference was brilliant, I literally gasped when Helen said her parents & Ava's grandmother were onboard the unsinkable Titanic. That was a great addition to the story, especially the way it tied in the ice giants.
I've already got the sequel waiting to be read on my shelf. I look forward to going back into Ava's magical world.
First of all, I can't get over how well-written this book is! I LOVE Victoria's writing style and her way of describing scenes and landscapes makes the whole book come alive. I could see it so clearly in my mind as if I was watching a film.
The characters in this novel felt so real. I felt like I really got to know them all; both the good and the bad ones. I loved reading about the evil ones and I loved cheering for the protagonists.
I regret watching booktube videos reviewing this book though. Even though they all claimed to be spoiler-free, they still managed to inadvertently spoil me for the biggest plot element.
I will recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written story with strong characters, set in both a dystopian & fantasy world. It's an amazing story! Read it!
I really liked this book! I wish I didn't read it simultaneously with Red Queen, because honestly I kept getting the two main characters mixed up (they both have three older brothers, both princesses (in a way at least) etc).
I found Lia to be a very strong and likeable protagonist with a great character development throughout the story. The story itself had its slow sections, and I do think the book could've been shorter without missing anything, but the second half was definitely a lot more interesting than the first half.
I did not see Kaden being the assassin coming! I thought it was Rafe all along, and at one point I even believed that the assassin and the prince was the same person. I still couldn't get myself to hate Kaden for what he did though, because he was just so adorable up until the big reveal!
3.5 stars.
If this book had been just a little more focussed on the science/dystopian part and a little less on the romance (quite instalove romance too), I think I would've really enjoyed this book. As it is, I liked it, but it wasn't that special to me. Our main character starts out as the most annoying, spoiled brat ever, but thankfully she improves rather quickly and is tolerable for most of the book.
Just when I thought I couldn't hate Blake any more than I already did... What a fucking arsehole!
So this book ended very abruptly and painfully. Not cool, Armentrout, not cool! Throughout this book I really enjoyed the development of Katy & Daemon's relationship. I want my own Daemon! The middle part of the book with Carissa's death was completely unexpected and made me so upset. But then Dee sort of accepting Katy again made me really happy. It was a rollercoaster.
I'm so glad I already have the next two books on my shelf, because I can't wait to see what happens next!
Ahh... Well, I really wanted to love this book, but it's so hard when the main character annoys you to no end. The book started off great, with a normal (albeit mute) girl and her deaf best friend. Then boom: insta-love, mary sue & a story that doesn't feel coherent. At first the story was too slow and then suddenly it was too fast. Most of the characters were only given very little time and I feel like I couldn't connect with most of them. The book was great up until the incident at Charlotte's house but after that it went downhill.
I'm not a poetry connoisseur by any definition, but the lyrics and poems in this book were so cringe-worthy, I'm so sorry to have to say that because they probably took a lot of time to write, but they just came across as quite juvenile and silly....
This book is like the lovechild of “The Selection” by Kiera Cass and “Eve” by Anna Carey. Really! It's got the best of both of those books, but at the same time it's unique and original.
Violet is a good main character. She's kind of naive and a tiny bit... stupid(?) sometimes, but at the same time she's very clever and strong-willed. She sees right through the royals' game and she's not willing to play it. The only thing I didn't love about this book was the instalove. But at the same time I could see why it was so instantly, especially because those feelings are all new to Violet and she wants to explore everything right then and there.
The ending of this book waS A MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER THAT I DID NOT SEE COMING AND I'M NOT SURE HOW TO COPE WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION. Phew. I need the next book right now, please.
Okay, so I've seen a lot of negative reviews of this book, and most of them complain about our main character, Ruby. But you know what, though? She has just turned FIFTEEN YEARS OLD (the goodreads synopsis is wrong, she mentions several times in the book that she's just turned 15). She's young, you can't expect her to go all MacGyver when the whole world is dying. I think she did incredibly well for her age and the author wrote her very realistically. I would probably be acting the same way at 15, worrying more about my friends than how to get water to last another day. It's just the way teenagers think. Okay, yeah, she might be a bit of a bitch sometimes and she's definitely got a high opinion on herself, but you don't have to love the main character to love the book. Her attitude does get better throughout the book, I promise.
The book did a good job at explaining why the water is deadly and it was so interesting reading about the different ways people reacted. The situation really brought out the inner core of their personality, whether that was kindness or cruelty, selflessness or violence. And this book is so sad, so so so sad.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a different dystopian and well-written.

It's been a while since I read a fantasy book (I think, actually I can't remember), and it was quite enjoyable to delve into a world of magic and creatures again. I loved reading about the Grisha and their powers. My favourite character in this book is Genya, I really like her and her loyalty. Can't wait to read the next book to see where the story takes me, because this book ended - not on a cliffhanger - very... openly? A new journey has begun within the last ten pages and I'm very much onboard with it.
I'm enjoying this series so much. I bloody love Daemon and I really like Katy (even though she's hella annoying sometimes, seriously annoying). The ending was just... aww. And can I just say that the humour in these books is hilarious, I laugh out loud all the time. Can't believe I didn't read the Lux series sooner!
Btw I so need to buy printed copies of these, but in the meanwhile, thank god for Amazon ebooks!
