4.75 stars This is such a beautiful book with a beautiful story about magic, love and family. Highly recommend.
3.5 stars I really wanted this to be amazing because 1) witches, 2) LGBTQ+ rep, but I think my expectations were a little too high. I felt like the dialogues were a little bit awkward at times and the pacing was slow. I did like Rishi's character and the ending left me wanting to read the second one, so that's pretty good.
4.5 stars oh my stars, what an amazing novel! The diversity amongst this crew is so refreshing. I have a soft spot for Sissix and Ohan. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book in this series.
5 stars (or maybe 4.5 stars) I love the diversity in this novel. We've got a biracial, bisexual female main character and an asexual male main character which is GREAT! I think this is the first book I ever read with an ace (or demisexual, he isn't quite sure) guy. I absolutely love the healthy friendship between Frances and Aled. I got to say their nerdiness is really what got me into the story. I love that they are creating a podcast and are using social media platforms (though, I don't know if this will still be relevant in a few years). The discussion whether or not going to the university is the right choice and learning that there are other options after high school throughout the narrative is brilliant.
3.5 stars Nice to get back into this world again. I will probably reread this at some point as I feel I might not have been in the right mood to read it.
4 stars was this originally a SQ fanfic? Because Julia is 💯 Regina Mills. And I was there for it. I have a weakness for beautiful/unattainable ice queens.
4 stars Amazing sequel to “The Name of the Wind”. I found this one to be a little slow towards the middle, but still very entertaining.
5 stars this book was so sweet and wonderful! And I cried so much -__- I definitely recommend it :)
3.5 stars This novel has everything I enjoy in books: queer ladies, a good plot with amazing side characters and a dash of nerdiness, yet it took me a while (65% through) to really get into it and to start caring about the romance. I think it didn't help that the first sex scene was seriously CRINGY. It kinda threw me ha, and I had a hard time taking anything seriously after that, sorry. As a (TV) fangirl, I liked that Taylor was an EP and Isabel a writer for a popular, primetime show. I'm not giving up on this series though! The writing was decent and I know if I hadn't been in a slumpy reading mood, I would have liked it a lot better. I intend to pick up the second book soonish.
3.25 stars Despite the summary, this romance is actually pretty light on the drama and that gets a few bonus points from me.I love Georgia Beers' writing. Whenever she has a new release coming out, I'm excited and can't wait to get my hands on it. I don't think I've ever given any of her books lower than a four-star rating before, but for some reason – and it pains me to say this – I didn't connect as well to Hopeless Romantic.I did enjoy it. Hopeless Romantic is in no way a bad book! The characters are lovely. Teddi and Leah have great chemistry. There are few secondary characters in this one and they all have distinct personalities. The writing is very smooth and comforting (Beers is a comfort author for me). The reason the book didn't have as big of an impact on me is probably that it's the first book I picked up after a massive reading slump, and admittedly, I'm not a fan of weddings LOL.I absolutely recommend Hopeless Romantic to anyone who enjoys a good feel-good romance! An ARC was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!
DNF'ed @ 56% there's no point in me continuing this book. I keep rolling my eyes at the dialogue.
3.5 stars (This is probably gonna be long and I'm sorry this review isn't in French but I'm lacking words so.) Really good LGBTQ québécois novel for young readers :) We need more of those! I love that the parents were (mostly) really supportive of their trans kids and that there wasn't any drama at school because of these non-gender conforming teens. I was all here for non-binary teens and discussion of pronouns and how they can make some people uncomfortable. I hope there is going to be another book and that this is going to be a series because I feel like so many things were left hanging. I want to know what will happen with the LGBTQ meetings and the president Jérôme-Lou. He's the perfect example that even queer people can have prejudices against other queer people. I want to see this addressed. The only negative (and reasons why i haven't given it 4 stars) is that the dialogue didn't feel authentic. I don't think young teens would talk that way, and it really pulled me out of the story on multiple occasions. Also, the level of maturity of the relationships these 12 yo experience was also a bit puzzling. Who the hell, in 5th grade, stays with the same person for 1.5year+???LGBTQ rep: trans, bi, pan, non-binary character.
4 stars It was so nice to see these characters again! I don't know if I don't remember because it's been ages since I last read a Rizzoli and Isles mystery, but Maura wasn't as much part of this book?? I would've liked more scenes between her and Jane (LOL - it's never enough). and my brain had blessedly forgotten that Jane is actually MARRIED to Gabriel Dean in the books. URGH. Oh well. The investigation was pretty intriguing and kept me guessing who the killer was til the end. I can't believe there's only one more book in this series. I hope the whole thing with Maura's birth mother will be wrapped up and Maura can finally move on.
