Mixed feelings about this book. I appreciate turning the racism discussion on its head. Unique in that respect. Writing could get a little maudlin at times.
Dual POV books can be hit or miss, but the two voices this book utilized were very distinct. Points for that.
This book has good closure, I'm not sure why it's a series.
This got very repetitive. Overall though, interesting topic I knew nothing about. Epidemiological study of cholera in London.
Every so often I get dreamy about what it would be like to time travel to Victorian England.
NOPE. Not any more. Holy cow, cholera sucks. Modern plumbing is awesome. That was my takeaway.
Omg, I bawled. Set in the English countryside before the onset of the blitz, this simple tale follows Willie, a young boy who is part of the flood of evacuee children sent out of London for their own safety. Willie has been terribly abused by his mother and unlike most kids, is not particularly sad about leaving home. His life doesn't even truly begin until he leaves London and enters the care of Mr. Tom, A grumpy old widower.
This is a good one.
