2 years ago I stopped reading and I struggled to get back into this beloved hobby of mine. Recently, I conjured a list of books I wanted to read and this happened to be the first one I physically picked up - and i'm really really happy I did!
There was just enough description on characters and their roles in the story, hardly a “filler” chapter and yet you got all the explanations you needed in a truly simple-to-understand (but not rushed) kind of way. Was a great storyline - paced to perfection. I was feeling many emotions throughout the story:
Especially with Nikolas, my-oh-my... Nikolas.
What a man. wipes sweat
In the intense moments I had to keep myself from causing a scene when the suspense was too real.
And let me tell you... it gets real.
BUT, Story was an easy 5star for me -until this line [semi-spoiler!]:
“In my country, a female is beaten for interfering in the business of men.”
My only comfort is that they died and will not be featured in the plot of the 2nd book.
Can someone please tell me what are words and how do I use them?
This sequel was absolutely phenomenal. Having just finished Refuge less than a minute ago, i'm typing this review with great difficulty given my haywire thoughts at the moment!
As much of an emotional wreck I was over Relentless - I was positively overcome with feelings while reading this sequel. More often than not, I was on the verge of hyperventilating. And hey, perhaps that's dramatic, but that's exactly what this book does to you.
Me to myself:
Ms. Sara the Demon Zapper was so bad*** this book. Having learnt from her past mistakes back home, the focus of this story was all about her powers and it's development - which I loved. Connecting with her Mori, developing her Fae + Demon powers, and overall not being as reckless as her 'Maine' self made it all the better to enjoy!
But that wouldn't have been possible without the man of the hour, now would it? Oh Nikolas. You are truly such a man. You really can't swoon enough with him. If something ends up happening to him in Rogue because of Sara's decision - I will hunt her down and a Master will be the least of her worries.
The one scene that got me incredibly worked up and heartbroken was the whole bit with Nate becoming a vampire. My Lord, I was an absolute mess. Especially when Sara was in contact with the vampire's heart. That was so tough - I couldn't have been more happy of the outcome.
Aaaand lastly - I have to say, I absolutely adored Tristan, Jordan, and Desmund. They all added their own flare to the story and it was truly everything.
