A Chaperoned Christmas is a sweet romance. It just happens to occur between two couples where one of the parties is the same person. I can respect and identify with the decisions that Candida has made to survive in 1879 as a woman. The reasons for her breaking off her relationship with Broderick are good ones. The reason why they shouldn't get back together is a good one. The issue is the fact that they both love one another and exist in each other's orbits.
Then we have the new love interest, at least on Candida's part, Sophie. An old friend who Candida starts to see in a different light. Whereas Sophie has always loved Candida. Watching as the flower blooms in this romance is truly delightful.
You don't have to have read any of the other books in the series to read A Chaperoned Christmas. It is a standalone and of course ends with happily-ever-after. This holiday romance is a clean sweet romance filled with family laughter.
I received a free copy of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
