Politicians—too many politicians!
While Oppenheim's trademark talent as a writer kept me engaged throughout the story, I have always disliked novels which incorporate politics which I know little about and care less to learn about. The struggles of Liberal and Labor parties in England in the early twentieth century, along with love and loss and a touch of the Gothic, was a bit much for me. I still enjoyed the read and would say it's a good book, but I probably won't reread it.
