This is the first book by Renee Pawlish that I have read, and even though it's the tenth book in a series, it works very well as a stand-alone novel. I got enough background on the main characters to enjoy their dynamics, and I would like to read more stories about them.
Though I am usually not a fan of the first-person view point, it suits the P.I./noir narrative. The parallel plots in 1955 and 2015 are a nice touch, and the descriptions of Denver in the Fifties more often than not made me “see” these chapters as a black and white movie. :)
