Eve Chaloner's Temptation

What happened in the first chapter almost ruined the book for me. To have a dad require his daughter to give up the inheritance her grandfather gave her, and which would have made it easier for her to earn a living if something happened to him, just to save his brother from “disgrace”?? Wow. That's stiff.

But the rest of the book was interesting and sweet, and I really enjoyed Eve as a character even when she wasn't being so pleasant a person.
