I freaking love this story. Sally Bend adds in real-life COVID issues in Her For The Holidays. This does not mean that Her is depressing, but it does influence the value of love for Dee and Felicia. Dee and Felicia have been talking for a while working online together. They got to know each before meeting for the first time. This is no fly-by-night romance in this quickie. This is a clean contemporary romance that leaves you with a huge smile on your face.
I happen to love what happens in a year in Her, especially about the realistic arguments that people can have. I think the reason that this story really hits home for me is that a friend of mine went through her transition while still working and she ended up losing her job. I saw how difficult it was when she was just coming into my building and how my employees reacted when she left. The ignorance and transphobia was ridiculous. I ended up becoming friends with her because of what was happening...though I think we would have become friends anyway because hello I'm mad cool. Bend showcases the fears and judgment that the person transitioning has and the people surround them. Bend also shows how people can be accepting too.
Feliz Navidad to all of the Felicias out there. Huge hugs!
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
