Hinges: Book One: Clockwork City

The art is charming and cute. The world has the potential to be fascinating. The problem is that her world comes across far better than the plot or characters. Orio seems to be a lost clockwork girl. She is collected by the bureaucracy and made a member of the town of Cobble, given clothing, told to pick a companion, and then she is sent to an assistant to help her settle in to her citizenship. Her companion is an already sentient creature who chooses her. His name is Bauble, and he's adorable but insists on messing up every job opportunity Orio is given. And he also seems to be homicidal, but we don't know why.

So the intro is sketchy and difficult to follow. But it was also charming enough that I WILL read more if I find it.
