Refiloe Moahloli brings diversity and friendship together in I Am You: A Book About Ubuntu. The flow of words rolls off the tongue. The joining of friends of different races as they perform different tasks shows unity and the innocence of childhood.
Zinelda McDonald's use of color and contrast will keep your kids engaged. I wish more characters had been non-white. I only saw one character at the end in a habib and it felt kind of tacked on. I will say that it is hard to gauge by just looking at a person what race or nationality they are, so there could be a plethora of different regions represented.
I enjoyed the overall message of the book. I think this is a book that all children should read.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
