It's so hard to wrap my mind around the atrocities that Yeonmi experienced at such a young age. And even just the horrible things that North Koreans are living with right now. It is so hard to believe that things like this are happening in this day and age, but then also not.
While reading through this I was in a sad state of mind IRL and thought about how maybe I wasn't in the right place to read such an emotional book, but a friend reminded me that at least you know that it has a somewhat happy ending. And it does, there's hope here. Even just her writing this book and not holding anything back was a huge step not only for other North Koreans, but for women who have been abused and mistreated. She has shown immense strength and courage.
