While I didn't identify as closely with Sloane as I did with Taylor in the last book, I still really enjoyed this story. Sloane has issues, a boatload of them, and is all too aware of the fact. While others see her as doing everything she can to care for her patients, even ones other nurses don't like to help (smelly drunkards, etc), she sees herself as worthless and beyond grace. Add to that the whole bit, carried over from the second book, of her being still on the run from whoever her worthless ex-fiancé cheated and the people who knocked her car off a cliff in the last book.
I felt that the characters were quite interesting and the writing itself is excellent. Candace Calvert is a talented author and is newly on my favorites list. I especially appreciated that the romance wasn't just focused on looks and was free of sensuality, and that the book is free of profanity and crude slang.
Christian message: Sloane had believed for a time in her girlhood, but life got in the way and faith dropped aside. She now must accept that grace is even for such a she is.
Now, I'm an animal lover in general and always enjoy pets in stories. Cat lovers in particular are going to love Sloane's spunky black kitten, Marty!
I received a free ebook copy from NetGalley for review purposes. I am glad to report that, after getting approved to read this and realizing it was the last of a series, I got the other two books from the church library and have now discovered a great new-to-me author who was previously not on my radar. :)
