So... straight down the hill. :-(
I was rather disappointed.
What worked in the first book didn't work at all in this one.
I hate Wavonne, who doesn't seem to have any positive qualities. She's rash, stupid, disrespectful, entitled, behaves like a teenager, and she's over 30. Also, I have no problems walking or even running in 6-inch heels. Why does she?
A.L.Herbert might know a lot about the restaurant business (and I do enjoy that expertise), but she doesn't know a squat about painting.
I hate it how everybody just tells her details that are none of her business.
I hate it how she waltzes in accusing everyone, and they forgive her immediately and then act as if she was their best friend.
I hate her judgmental attitude to people, while she forgives Wavonne everything.
The plot was stupid. The final reckoning was stupid. The detective is stupid.
Also, I love revenge stories where the bullied get even with their bullies. Not even that could A.L. give me. No, Gregory's whole plan would have been in vain, he slept with the bitch for nothing... and Halia thinks he's childish because of it. Halia has no whatsoever compassion for the soul-crushing impact of high school bullying.
P.S. I just found out that A.L.Herbert is the pen name of Patrick Sanchez. All the “black culture” I was reading was just lies and make-believe, and I bought it because I'm a stupid white bitch. :-(
I feel conned.
