First things first: This story is well written, and I like the characters - both Jay and Afton, but especially Afton's goofball friends Shawn and Juan (these guys are a hoot!). I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Ashton and Jay develop over time, but one of my favorite parts is how Afton's relationship with her twin sister Starr changes as well.
But I'd like to say that, for me personally, the secret admirer angle is somewhere between sweet and creepy, and I can't quite decide which. It helps knowing that it's Jay - but Afton doesn't know that. She only *hopes* that it's him, and that makes her enthusiastic reaction a bit weird for me.
On a side note: This is another in a recent crop of YA stories where the characters are obsessed with '80s teen movies. Is that still a thing for today's kids? They were definitely a thing when I grew up, but that was coughcough years ago.
