Readers have plenty of diversity to look at in Pride Puppy! Julie McLaughlin does a fantastic job of getting across many ideas, races, genders, and of course parade items. The activity at the back of the book to look up items under the alphabet in each drawing is a great teaching tool for kids.
The rhyming part was not smooth in some areas or it could just be me. Robin Stevenson makes the story more about the parade and what there is to see and not losing the puppy. Therefore the child focuses on learning and the parade and not fretting about losing the puppy.
The activity exercise of looking up items is what makes this book worthy. It teaches kids the alphabet, common words, and how to identify them all the while spending time under the rainbow.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
